NEW YORK NEWS CONFERENCE: Brian Williams, NBC News, NBC and Comcast capitulate to Andy Martin’s demand for FCC investigation

Media expert, law professor and conservative New Hampshire Republican Party leader Andy Martin will hold a New York news conference Sunday February 8th to respond to Brian Williams removing himself from the NBC Nightly News. Moments after Andy conducted a news conference Saturday afternoon announcing Andy was going to the FCC with the Williams scandal, NBC News’ responded to Andy by issuing its surprise announcement that Williams was temporarily stepping down. Andy will explain Sunday why the NBC/News/Comcast/Williams scandal is talking on explosive Wall Street proportions. Andy has been a brawler on the national media stage for forty-six years. Because of his unique combination of both legal, broadcasting and media experience he has been a part of exposing numerous major scandals (www.AndyMartin.com). NBC News once paid Andy the equivalent of $25,000 for mistakenly airing one his of his TV spots. Because Andy is independent of the legacy media, he is able to probe deeper and analyze better what is now happening in the Williams scandal. “Williams may come back,” Andy says. “But I am a little doubtful. I suspect NBC is scrambling for a replacement right now.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Attention New York, National, Media and Daybook/Assignment editors

Announcement of New York news conference Sunday, February 8th

FCC expert/law professor Andy Martin draws “blood” from NBC and Comcast with Andy’s Saturday news conference

Andy’s Sunday news conference will explain why Brian Williams is doomed

Andy, who has been a national media bulldog for forty-six years, continues to battle for public integrity and media responsibility

(New York, NY) (February 8, 2015) Moments after media expert and law professor Andy Martin conducted a New York news conference on Saturday, February 7th to announce he is asking the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) to open an investigation of Brian Williams, NBC News, NBC and Comcast, NBC News responded by removing Williams from the NBC Nightly News.

Andy has been a media brawler on the national stage for forty-six years, since Andy’s name landed on one of President Nixon’s enemies’ lists. Andy honed his skills as a litigator against political, judicial and media corruption during decades of fighting organized crime and media fraud in Chicago. Today he resides in New Hampshire, where his mother was born and where he grew up playing in a creek around the corner from where he now lives near downtown Manchester. In New Hampshire, Andy is perhaps the state’s only corruption fighter and truth warrior. Last year Andy’ advertising exposed Scott Brown for “stolen valor” and as a military fraud, disrupted Brown’s announced Pentagon retirement ceremony, and likely caused Brown to lose what was a close-but-winnable senate election.

“The Brian Williams scandal is much bigger and much more lethal than ‘talking heads’ realize,” Andy says. “Well, I realize it. NBC News now realizes it. Comcast now realizes it. It was no coincidence that moments after I announced my call for an FCC investigation Saturday that Brian Williams left the stage, perhaps never to return.

“Comcast has fifty billion dollars at stake, with hundreds of millions of dollars in fees and other expenses, all tied up in the takeover of Time Warner Cable’s assets.

“Here is Comcast’s regulatory problem, as implicitly reported by the New York Post’s Page Six Saturday (see link below):

But network sources said Williams’ antics shouldn’t come as a surprise to NBC News higher-ups. Execs knew he was overstating his Baghdad travails and even warned him to stop, but he wouldn’t listen, the sources said.

“The top NBC executives knew the story was false and told him to stop telling it,” an insider said. “They spent nearly a decade trying to protect Brian from himself. It was a constant battle.”

“What does this mean in plain English? The ‘suits’ at NBC are terrified of efforts to bring the FCC into the Williams scandal. The FCC does not monitor or regulate the news. Plain enough. But the FCC does take very seriously and regulate and investigate failure by licensees and broadcast management to properly supervise their employees. Broadcasting false news, and allowing an employee to lie, as Williams did, year after year without any restrictions being placed on that person, is a very serious regulatory matter.

“The New York Post story makes clear that NBC management has been aware of Williams’ lies for years, and did nothing to discipline him. It took America’s veterans, outraged at the media’s tolerance of Williams’ lies, to bring down Williams when NBC brass would not. Williams apparently went on making his crazy claims even after being warned to stop. Until veterans stood up and said ‘enough.’

“Furthermore, Williams may have a lifetime history of ‘fibbing’ and exaggerating (second link blow). Telling lies over a lifetime is very definitely a personality disorder and potentially even a psychiatric condition. When you connect all of the dots, and the ‘floating bodies’ in New Orleans and grounded chopper in Iraq and all of Williams’ other mishegas in context, NBC has a major problem on its hands. NBC management has allowed lies to go uncorrected for years, not days or weeks. This is a complete failure of licensee supervision. Corollary: Comcast could be headed to designation for a hearing on the Time Warren matter, which would be devastating to the deal.

“Because of my own intermixed background in media and law (I filed the first antitrust lawsuit against NBC, CBS and NBC decades ago), I saw the pattern and recognized Comcast’s vulnerability before anyone else did, which is why I announced my ‘FCC option’ Saturday afternoon. Once I exposed the FCC option, Comcast knew they were now in the fight of their lives and had to take immediate action to save their deal.

“The New York Post story (first link below) could also be interpreted as an initial attempt by Comcast brass to rescue the merger and throw Williams under the bus. How can NBC’s so-called ‘search for facts’ not probe prior admonitions to Williams by NBC ‘suits’ now that these warnings are out in the open? Is the Williams investigation going to be ‘wrapped’ in  matter of days?

“In other words, Williams is doomed.

“NBC’s attempt to jettison Williams to save Time Warner could boomerang. If NBC/Comcast allowed a cover-up to go on for years -- after all, the crew with Williams in Iraq knew he was lying right out of the starting gate -- the FCC will be embarrassed into talking regulatory action,” Andy concludes.
