SIDEWALK DEMONSTRATION AUGUST 18TH


Dear Chief Williams:

My opponent, the military imposter Mark Kirk, is hosting a reception at D. H. Browns at 231 E. Monroe Street Wednesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

I would like to stage a sidewalk demonstration outside Brown’s at a reasonable distance from the entrance.

I am writing you to first ask permission for the demonstration under any applicable Springfield Police rules and regulations; and, second, to work out mutually acceptable arrangements for the demonstration with your staff. We will be displaying one large banner, and probably passing out a treat to be announced in honor of Mr. Kirk’s ambiguous personal life.

While we will be somewhat noisy, and using a bullhorn if that is permitted, we do not plan to do anything improper or unlawful and, indeed, are contacting you in advance to ensure that we comply with the law in all respects.

I would appreciate it if you could have someone call me this afternoon to discuss the demonstration so we have confirmed that you are aware of our activity and we have reached an agreement that works for us.

We have always worked in great harmony with the Chicago Police Department (see accompanying letter) and have never had a problem with the CPD staging our demonstrations in close proximity to Mr. Kirk; we hope to establish the same working rapport with your Department.
