Reagan National Airport news conference: New Hampshire U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin condemns U.S. Marine “girly” hats

New Hampshire U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin will hold an 11:00 A.M. news conference today, Saturday, at Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC to demand that the U. S. Marine Corps drop any plans to impose a so-called “girly” hat on men and women of the U. S. Marines. “We don’t have money for bullets, Secretary Hagel is complaining about the sequester, and we are running a millenary salon for the Marine Corps?” Andy asks. “This is both ridiculous and embarrassing. What is wrong with the old hats? I am willing to take at face value that Barack Obama did not ‘order’ the hats, but Obama has created such a climate of timidity and political correctness in Washington that now they want to dress men in the military to look like women. Stop!!!” Andy’s ties to the Marine Corps are old and deep. A copy of Andy’s letter to Secretary Hagel and General Amos is part of this release.

Re: Proposed “vote” on new Marine Corps unisex cover

Dear Secretary Hagel and
General Amos:

I am in a state of shock that DOD and the USMC are considering changing the dress Marine uniform cover to adopt a “hat” that smacks more of a bellhop in a hotel than that of a U.S. Marine.

My ties to the USMC are old and deep. I have never been to the Viet-Nam War Memorial because of all the brave Marines I met in Viet-Nam. As a result of serving on the staff of U. S. Senator Paul Douglas, perhaps one of the Corps’ greatest heroes in congress, I ended up in Viet-Nam in 1967, 1968 and 1971. I considered General Raymond G. Davis a friend. I remember the grief I felt the day Col. Michael Spark and Sergeant Major Ted McClintock, whom I knew, were shot down. I remember the day a young Marine Lt. Terry Hale triggered a mine south of DaNang. And the first “Fighting Illini” football player to die in Viet-Nam was a Marine, Lt. Bruce Capel.

I feel I can honestly and honorably speak on behalf of Ray Davis and Paul Douglas, and probably many other New Hampshire Marines, when I condemn the Marines’ millenary fiasco.

I do not know what kind of madness has engulfed the Corps and DOD. In the middle of a sequester struggle the Corps is trying to adopt a ridiculous unisex cover (hat).

Do you remember what a ruckus President Nixon caused when he tried to adopt Gilbert-and-Sullivan uniforms for White House guards? These hats look worse.

Please, immediately, stop embarrassing Marines throughout history by even considering adopting ridiculous changes to one of the finest military uniforms in history. Semper Fi.

Respectfully submitted,

ANDY MARTIN

New Hampshire U.S. Senate candidate Andy Martin stands by his efforts to aid the son of Hollywood star Michael Douglas

New Hampshire U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin is continuing his efforts to aid the imprisoned son of Hollywood star Michael Douglas despite the unwillingness of others to support Cameron Douglas. “There has been some controversy about how best to help Cameron,” Andy says. “I cannot speak for others but I believe there is no conflict between the belief that systemic abuses must be addressed, and my own efforts to use a single prisoner to advance a compassionate agenda for public policy. Michael Douglas has been trying unsuccessfully for years to obtain relief; therefore, Michael’s past efforts have not been successful. A new approach is necessary and I am experienced in focusing attention on failures in public policy. My prior activism on behalf of human rights abuses has drawn world attention.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New Hampshire Republican U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin’s efforts to help the son of Hollywood star Michael Douglas draw national attention

Andy says that he will “stay the course” in assisting Cameron Douglas

Andy has a long record of successful human rights activism

(Manchester, NH) (October 11, 2013) New Hampshire Republican U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin’s efforts to help Cameron Douglas, the imprisoned son of Hollywood star Michael Douglas, are drawing national attention (please see link below).

Andy’s efforts were reported in the New York Post’s Page Six, the most widely read celebrity column in the world.

Andy’s past efforts to come to the assistance of victims of human rights abuses have drawn worldwide attention, and scowls from federal prosecutors. After the death of Princess Diana, Andy’s human rights petition to the French president helped free imprisoned journalists.

“In the 1980’s I tangled with federal prosecutors, who attacked me for defending the right of an accused drug dealer not to be held incommunicado,” Andy says. “I won. Carlos Lehder was released from incommunicado custody. It is the role of a public interest lawyer to defend unpopular causes and unpopular clients. I was very amused when I received a ‘thank you’ note from Mr. Lehder. I obviously did not share his views but I defended his right to due process of law.

“In the 1990’s I came to the assistance of imprisoned French journalists who were being held in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s tragic death. My Human Rights Petition on behalf of media freedom helped convince the French government to release the journalists.

“The Republican Party was founded to end one of the greatest human rights abuses of all time, slavery. I am proud to continue in the finest traditions of the Republican Party’s human rights activism.

“More recently I have come to the defense of a former leader of The Ukraine. She is no Sunday school teacher, but she has been abused by her government. I am delighted to see she will soon be released.

“My Senator, Paul H. Douglas, was a friend of Clarence Darrow. I was schooled in Darrow’s tradition. Coming to the defense of unpopular clients and unpopular causes does not scare me.

“The federal government is inflicting unnecessary pain not only on Cameron Douglas but also on his parents. Given that Michael has had a serious illness, for the Bureau of Prisons to inflict distress on him by denying him access to his son is extremely unfortunate.

“Others may be reluctant to step forward. I am not. I can assure the people of New Hampshire that if they entrust me with the responsibility of being their U. S. Senator they will send a fearless advocate to Washington. I have lived my own life in the ‘Live free or die’ tradition. As a Christian, seeking to fight injustice is a theological imperative.

“Despite what others may do, I will continue my efforts to see that Cameron’s parents can have regular access to their son, and that while Cameron is punished, such punishment is not ‘cruel, unusual’ or disproportionate. If necessary, I am prepared to go to court to obtain access to Cameron Douglas. But I do not think the Bureau of Prisons will persist with its present policy of inflicting gratuitous punishment on Cameron. I am confident that reason will prevail.”

U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says Barack Obama’s presidency has been “exploded” by Obama’s IED (Improvised Electoral Device)

ContrarianCommentary.com editor and New Hampshire U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says that this week Barack Obama’s presidential legacy was defined and destroyed by an IED (“Improvised Electoral Device). A month ago Obama sat atop the political world, a paper maché warrior confident that his plan to lure Republicans into a “box canyon” would “terminate the Republican Party with extreme prejudice.” But while a “shutdown solution” remains to be finalized, Andy predicts history will confirm that instead of killing off the Republican Party, Obama destroyed the Democrats and sealed his own fate. Andy equates the term “improvised explosive device,” a random form of unconventional explosive, with Obama’s “improvised electoral device” which Obama planned to use to win the 2014 election. This week Obama destroyed himself by a self-inflicted IED, an “Improvised Electoral Device.” Obama’s attempt to profit politically from the conservative-inspired government shutdown ended up costing Obama his presidency and his legacy.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New Hampshire Republican leader and U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says Barack Obama’s government shutdown has boomeranged on the president

Andy says that Barack Obama’s actions and Jay Carney’s words will live in infamy. “When Americans heroes needed to be honored, Jay Carney says Barack Obama called his lawyers”

Andy says Barack Obama had exploded an “Improvised Electoral Device” on himself

(Manchester, NH) (October 12, 2013) On April 19th I wrote that the Obama Administration was R.I.P. I called the timing of the “hinge of fate” for president Obama almost precisely down to the day. Obama has been on a steady downward trend since then.

This week Barack Obama’s presidential legacy also died. You wouldn’t know that from the nightly bloviation of the cable TV bobbleheads. Conservative bobbleheads are savaging Senator Ted Cruz and Tea Party Republicans for “losing the shutdown,” when in fact the Tea Party and Republican conservatives have achieved one of the greatest victories since the Boston Tea Party.

Liberal bobbleheads claim Obama has won a great victory, that the Republicans have been vanquished by their own conservative base and that Republicans will be wiped out in 2014. It ain’t so.

When I began writing about Barack Obama eight (8) years ago, and exposing his incompetence and perfidiousness, I pointed out Obama wasn’t a “real” lawyer. Apart from a couple of perfunctory appearances in court, Obama had never represented a client, never written a complaint (a formal legal claim) and had never signed any documents in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Real lawyers deal with real choices, they deal with client needs, and they often confront corrupt judges and an imperfect judicial system. Real lawyers learn to negotiate and settle cases. “Trials” are usually a last resort.

Obama was purely an academic devotee of the law. Obama has studied the law as an academic exercise and he knows just enough of it to be dangerous to himself. In particular, he doesn’t know why or how or when to “negotiate.” Obama has no business in politics, and no business occupying space in the Oval Office.

I worked in the 89th Congress. I witnessed close up one of the great presidential negotiators use his negotiating skills to change the face of America, for better and for worse. I saw one of the Republican Party’s greatest negotiators run a rearguard strategy and slow down a liberal tide that was all but unstoppable. I have spent my life “reading” opponents, negotiating solutions, trying to obtain the best deal, not always the greatest deal, possible.

This week Obama exploded an IED (an “Improvised Electoral Device”) in the Oval Office. Obama will forever be remembered as the president who dishonored our war dead and our valiant veterans. By the end of this week, Friday, today, Obama’s legacy was shattered. All that remain of our presidential Ozymandias are the smile and the ears.

Liberal commentators have been counting the votes they will reap in 2014 from the current shutdown. They are wrong. They are living in a liberal media bubble. In reality they will reap a legacy of tears, they will harvest a lifeless crop from the poisoned seeds planted by a “president that never was” and for a dream that could never be. Obama’s opponents have skewered him throughout his presidency, and even while he was still a candidate, for not being “one of us” and for belonging to the “other.” This week Obama proved he belongs to the “other,” that he is not “one of us.” Barack Obama is anti-American. Period.

Last month Congress made clear that it wanted to pay the military when the inevitable government shutdown and showdown began. As with any hastily drafted law, the statute provided in general language for "pay and allowances" to the troops. No reasonable, no rational person could claim that paying a death benefit to a fallen trooper is outside the scope of “pay and allowances.” The Pay Our Military Act was deemed so straightforward and noncontroversial that it takes up barely a full page (see link below).

But Obama managed to find “lawyers” within the Department of Justice and Department of Defense to play word games with the language so as to disable payment of benefits due to our fallen heroes. Who these lawyers are is unknown. But their identities will  eventually become known. And their legal careers will remain mired in infamy and disgrace to the end of their days.

I have never been privileged to wear our uniform on active duty. But I come from a long line of military officers and paramilitary agents. My father and grandfather were warriors. My Uncle Bill Vasiliou, a UNH graduate, was a combat engineer in the Pacific. My mom, a 1940 UNH graduate, went to war in 1941 and eventually served in OSS. Honor was an important part of my upbringing. I have seen the face of war, and I have seen the face of death.

I can still visualize the face of U. S. Marine Lt. Hale, a ruddy-faced kid who wore glasses. One day south of Da Nang he triggered a booby trap and was no more. The next day I accompanied Capt. Charles Robb to Graves Registration to identify Hale’s remains. There was no body. In Viet-Nam I saw dead bodies lying in the sun, being eaten by flies and vermin. In Cambodia I saw dead bodies carved up like pork chops, and dumped on a truck. The face of war is ugly.

The loss of a loved one is unspeakable. The loss never dies. When we use the term “hero” I know what that term involves. Sacrifice even to the point of death. That is why America has always shown the utmost honor and greatest respect to our fallen. Medals of Honor are awarded to those who refused to abandon the dead. It is national policy that we carefully and lovingly prepare them for final resting. Those who breach these covenants have been excoriated. There is no “politics” where our fallen heroes repose for eternity. Only silence, and eternal honor.

Today, almost 70 years after D-Day and Iwo Jima, we are still learning about the horrors U.S. troops encountered there (I have a column in preparation about Democrat Bill de Blasio and his reaction to the sacrifices of his father). Ronald Reagan was no warrior, but he understood that the sacrifices of the “Boys of Pointe du Hoc” would live in honor and glory forever (please see link below).

This week there were tears in my eyes as I witnessed Barack Obama and his “lawyers” dishonoring our war dead.

Throughout history, from the earliest times, the dead of war have been accorded a special place of honor. They died in defense of the state, of the people, of the nation, of life itself. Our war dead represent the best in all of us, their willingness to sacrifice humbling our ordinary lives, their willingness to obey the laws as written by the Congress and as “faithfully executed” by the president ensuring our peace and prosperity at home.

But when it came to “faithfully executing” the “Pay Our Military Act,” (see link blow) Obama stooped to play politics with the lifeless bodies of our fallen heroes. Can you please forgive the tears in my eyes? I wept for the flag, and I feel only compassion for the decent Americans who have been bamboozled into voting for the ultimate anti-American, Barack Obama, twice.

Here is what the Pay Our Military Act language actually says:

(1) such sums as are necessary to provide pay and allowances to members of the Armed Forces (as defined in section 101(a)(4) of title 10, United States Code), including reserve components thereof, who perform active service during such period;

Is there any way anyone, legal expert or high school graduate, could rationally or reasonable argue that a death benefit is not part of the “pay and allowances” of military personnel? How could any lawyer ignore and pervert the clear intent of Congress?

This was not a case of a poorly drafted law. The language is succinct and explicit, intentionally so. This was the case of a law where Congressional intent was so clear and so non-controversial and so universally accepted that it only took one page to adopt the Pay Our Military Act. This was no discombobulated 2,000+ page Obamacare. One page said it all. Pay our men and women in uniform their “pay and allowances.” (You are probably seeing the actual text, and the actual brevity of the statute for the first time in this column.)

Only evil and evil people could distort “pay and allowances” by interpreting the words to exclude death benefits for military service.

And so, after eight years of writing about Obama, and years of saying I dislike him politically but bear him no personal grudge, I am forced to state, unequivocally, Barack Obama and his anti-American posse in the White House are pure, unmitigated evil.

The government shutdown didn’t put the Republicans in a “box canyon” as Harry Reid expected. It is Barack Obama, his administration and his legacy that blundered into a box canyon when they locked up our outdoors military memorials, locked out every American and especially honored veterans, and when they then locked down the national mall, only to reopen it for illegal aliens to hold a rally.

Obama sought to use the bereaved families of our fallen heroes as fodder for his evil political machinations. For shame.

No, Obama will not benefit from this shutdown. Obama is being destroyed. His legacy has turned to dust. He has disgraced not only himself, he has disgraced the Democrats who parrot his obscenities on cable TV, and who march blindly with Obama into the garbage pail of history.

Barack Obama has not just energized the Republican “base” for 2014, the dreaded “base” that strikes fear in the hearts of beltway bs’ers. Obama has energized the American people to rise up and stand against his infamous administration and, yes, rise up against Obama’s “lawyers” as well.

Obama thought he could use the government shutdown as an Improvised Electoral Device to destroy the Republicans. The tactic has boomeranged. He has destroyed himself. Obama has inflicted a fatal wound on his own legacy with his own Improvised Electoral Device.

I have been “right” about Barack Obama since I began writing about the man in 2004. I am right again today. The government shutdown will be seen by historians as a classic self-inflicted wound, as the point at which Barack Obama’s ego and evil empire and his evil agenda for America finally destroyed themselves.

May God Bless America. And may God forgive Barack Obama and those who march in his footsteps, for the evil they have done to our fallen heroes and for the evil they are doing to our Constitution.

New Hampshire media bias claim concerning “erased” candidate Andy Martin goes to court October 15th

Accusing the Manchester Union Leader of engaging in “Soviet-style ‘journalism’” by “erasing” his campaign for U. S. Senator, New Hampshire Republican Party leader and U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin will go to court on Tuesday, October 15th and file suit against various recalcitrant media that are publishing false information about the 2014 campaign. “The communists used to publish photographs and new reports ‘erasing’ people from pictures and stories when they did not want to confirm the existence of the erased people,” Andy says. “Today some New Hampshire media are following in the Soviet-style tradition by erasing my campaign. Love me or hate me, I am in the U. S. Senate race. New Hampshire cannot be a world class state when it is undermined by bush league journalism. If New Hampshire Republicans had a winning streak, maybe people could question my candidacy. But the current approach of New Hampshire Republicans has led to decades of losing elections and decades of party erosion. I have the experience to present a new approach, and to offer a hard-hitting challenge to Jeanne Shaheen. Local media that want to act as ‘Shills for Shaheen’ will be taken to court,” Andy says. “Why does my candidacy strike fear in the heart of John DiStaso and other biased media that are trying to ‘erase’ my campaign?”

On September 25th SeacostOnline.com (and presumably your print edition) published a story containing the false claim referring to my current primary opponent as “the first GOP candidate to announce his run for the U. S. Senate…”

That was a factually incorrect statement. I announced in May, I am a fully legally qualified candidate, and I have been campaigning actively. I hope to begin broadcast advertising later this month.

New Hampshire law contains provisions for “defamation by implication,” which covers incorrect factual claims tending to disparage the true facts. I think your false claim falls squarely within New Hampshire “defamation by implication” case law.

Tuesday, October 15th I will be filing suit against media that have made similar false claims. I am not sure if these errors are due to personal hostility against me, or incompetent media performance. The Union Leader will also be named; in the case of John DiStaso he is merely a mouthpiece for Jeanne Shaheen and he has deliberately and intentionally sought to undermine my candidacy. DiStaso can express his own malignant opinions; but he cannot publish false facts and seek to erase my candidacy from the election. The UL is being untrue to the Loeb tradition.

I can’t tell you how deleterious it is to the credibility of the print media, and media in general, when you try, Soviet-style (they used to erase people from pictures) to erase the existence of a candidate from the election. Whether you approve or disapprove of my candidacy, you can’t simply deny I exist and then deliberately or negligently publish false facts. You do a disservice to your readers when you seek to mislead them.

I have done the legal research. If you want to pay your attorneys to duplicate my research, please have at it.

I have a very distinguished record of public service, and I offer New Hampshire Republicans – who have been losing to Democrats for decades – a new and realistic option to recapture a U. S. Senate seat.

I obviously can’t predict what the court will do, but I have done my due diligence and feel we have a strong case for some relief.

I would respectfully request that you publish a prominent and visible retraction and correction and, if you wish, apology, for reporting false information to your readers. Failing same you will be named a defendant on October 15h.

Please feel free to call or otherwise contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely yours,

ANDY MARTIN

New Hampshire U.S. Senate candidate Andy Martin asks to visit jailed son of Hollywood star Michael Douglas

New Hampshire U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin will hold a telephone news conference today, October 8th to announce Andy has asked U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder for permission for Andy to visit the jailed son of Hollywood star Michael Douglas.
“I sympathize with the parents of Cameron Douglas,” Andy says. “Federal law is unduly harsh in dealing with nonviolent drug offenders. Michael Douglas’ son is an addict, and he has also been a seller. But that doesn’t mean he should be held under barbaric conditions. U.S. Senators have a vital role to play in reforming our federal drug laws. When the son of a celebrity is treated excruciatingly badly, that abuse is a basis to focus attention on our broken prison system. I have asked the Attorney General for permission to visit Douglas’ son.”

Attorney General

Re: Bureau of Prisons inmate Cameron Douglas,
     FCI Cumberland, Maryland

Dear General Holder:

I have read the published stories about the harsh treatment being inflicted on the son of movie actor Michael Douglas.

Cameron has undeniably violated federal laws and he is subject to appropriate punishment.

But if the published reports are true, Cameron is being banned from having family visits, and he is being held in a form of solitary confinement or administrative segregation. Rather than helping Mr. Douglas to recover from his addiction, the BOP may actually be exacerbating Cameron’s condition.

There are five reasons for my intervention and why I am writing to you today:

     1. First, I do not see why a nonviolent drug offender, even one who has reoffended in custody, should be subjected to conditions that involve extended periods of segregation or solitary confinement.

     2. Second, I fail to see why the punishment of Cameron should extend to imposing unduly harsh conditions on visits by his parents. It is beyond dispute that maintaining family ties is an important rehabilitative goal. Unless there is some evidence that Cameron’s parents are smuggling drugs to him, or otherwise violating institutional policy, I believe the Douglas family’s access to their son should be reinstated forthwith.

By all means punish Cameron in a sensible manner; but by no means inflict unnecessary pain on his parents.

     3. Third, as a conservative Republican I am concerned by conditions in our federal penal system. I would have thought the Obama Administration would have developed a more enlightened penological policy than segregation and alienation. It is ironic that some conservative Republicans have been leading the way in eliminating disparities in sentencing. I also support equalizing all forms of punishment within prison walls.

     4. As a Christian, I am reminded every day of Jesus’ admonishment that we must always remember prisoners and captives and ensure that their treatment meets humane standards. I know that many religious organizations play a vital role in our prison facilities and I am delighted that this is an area were Christian organizations are often leaders. The role of the late Charles Colson should always be remembered.

     5. Finally, I would like to meet with Cameron Douglas at FCI Cumberland and discuss with him the conditions of his confinement. I would ask that you make the arrangements for me to do so.

I have been fortunate in life. I don’t smoke or drink to excess. The strongest “drug” I ingest is an occasional cooler of iced coffee. But rather than insulating myself from the reality of what drug addiction can mean to a person, and to that person’s family, I am very concerned that the United States strive to maintain a humane incarceration program as part of our overall national policy of discouraging drug use and abuse.

As an urban educator I received firsthand knowledge and experience with the drug crisis during the 1980’s. While we no longer have a “crack epidemic,” drug abuse and drug use continue to be major problems in our society.

A growing toleration for “gateway” drugs may or may not be creating long-term risks for our society. As a senator I would focus on the impact that drug use has on our national condition.

I would like to encourage you to review the conditions of Cameron Douglas’ confinement, and also review your treatment of prisoners in general. While Cameron is a “celebrity” prisoner in the sense that he has prominent parents, his incarceration helps to shed light on how other similarly situated prisoners are treated. Unless Cameron is being singed out for discriminatory treatment, his conditions of confinement signal a warning that the BOP is not dealing with our modern drug crisis in a way that leads to rehabilitation and recovery.

Please get back to me at your earliest convenience as to when I may visit Cameron, and what additional feedback you have to satisfy my concerns about the overall conditions of confinement in federal prisons.

Respectfully submitted,

ANDY MARTIN
