Andy Martin explains why Barack Obama’s prior drug abuse still matters

Internet Powerhouse and Conservative blogger Andy Martin, the man who single-handedly created the anti-Obama “Birther” movement, who then distanced himself from part of his creation, and who still controls the Internet’s anti-Obama agenda with Andy’s Hawai’i and Chicago-based research into Obama’s past, explains why Obama’s prior drug abuse is still relevant in the 2012 election cycle.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Internet Powerhouse Andy Martin says Barack Obama’s history of drug abuse is “defining deviancy down” in the White House

Andy says the national media have a double standard, allowing drug abuse by Democrats and looking to expose Republicans for similar behavior

Andy asks why Obama’s “Choom Gang” story is being marginalized; the “Choom Gang” report deserves greater public attention, not cursory reporting on a holiday weekend

Andy says liberal media “dumped” Obama’s drug abuse story on the American people on a weekend when no one is really watching

Andy suggests the Washington Post has confirmed that “high school matters”

(NEW YORK)(May 29, 2012) Internet Powerhouse and Conservative blogger Andy Martin, the man who single-handedly created the anti-Obama “Birther” movement, who then distanced himself from the more extreme elements of his creation, and who still controls the Internet’s anti-Obama agenda with Andy’s Hawai’i and Chicago-based research into Obama’s past, explains why Andy believes President Barack Obama’s drug abuse is relevant today:

When did the story of Barack Obama’s drug addiction reach the media? On Memorial Day weekend when most of us are focused on remembering our fallen heroes and celebrating with our families. Obama’s “Choom Gang” document dump was timed to reach Americans when they are least focused on politics and the media. Well, I do not believe we should overlook Obama’s history of drug abuse. We should not allow the media to manipulate us into reelecting a man with a history of drug abuse in his teen and college years. The American people have a right to ask Barack Obama the tough questions that were not asked in 2008.

Does “high school matter?” The Washington Post suggests that high school is very important. The Post created a front page media feeding frenzy over an incident involving Governor Mitt Romney’s high school years. Certainly the Post believes long-ago experiences in high school can still be front-page news when a Republican runs for president.

So where does that leave us with Barack Obama’s high school drug abuse and college drug abuse? Media silence. Consider:

First, since Obama was no doubt abusing drugs into his 20’s, Obama’s drug abuse is a lot closer to the present time than Mitt Romney’s high school hijinks. Obama was a drug user well into adulthood.

Second, while I disagree with Governor Sarah Palin on many issues, I completely agree with her that Obama was never properly vetted by the media in 2008. So while “Obama” is running for “reelection” in 2012, he is still an unknown to most Americans. I wrote a book about “Obama: the Man Behind The Mask,” and laid the foundation for future Obama writing and research. But my book was not read by tens of millions of Americans. Obama is still “the man behind the [media] mask” in 2012.

Third, the way Obama has been treated by the media is a classic example of “defining deviancy down.” The late Senator Daniel Moynihan coined the term “defining deviancy down” (link below) to explain how society can undermine its own standards and security when it tolerates seemingly innocuous anti-social behavior. Moynihan showed how tolerating minor acts of “deviant” behavior can lead to major social problems as tolerance for deviant behavior increases and spreads to more serious societal matters.

Fourth, other columnists have commented on the fact that this is the first time in a long time we have two presidential candidates with no military experience. In other words, we are electing a “commander-in-chief” who has never commanded and never been a chief in any military unit. While battlefield experience should never be a sine qua non for presidential leadership, some exposure to the concept of military policy is always helpful when the person we choose must “lead” our fighting forces and make military policy.

Since we can no longer look at their military leadership as exemplars of their character, looking at other factors becomes essential when we evaluate the leadership qualities of presidential candidates.

Fifth, we learned during the Clinton years, when President Bill Clinton had an insatiable sexual appetite and an inability to control his impulses right into the Oval Office, that a generation of children (now young graduates in their 20’s) were exposed to the complexities of adult sexuality while still in grade school. Clinton defined deviancy down in a way that reached into every home. Clinton also came up with the notorious expression “I didn’t inhale” to explain away his own marijuana experimentation.

Sixth, while drug experimentation and marijuana use are widespread, the vast majority of the American public has never engaged in the type of serious drug abuse Obama admitted to in his teens (and likely well into his 20’s). Obama says he was virtually addicted to marijuana and bought all of the cocaine he could afford. How many Americans today fit Obama’s drug abuse profile? Not many.

So when you tie all of these threads together, what do they mean?

We are “defining deviancy down” in the White House when we elect or reelect a person who has history of drug abuse. The issue is as simple as that.

Ask any school administrator, local police force or our national anti-drug leaders, “Is drug abuse a problem?” The answer is “yes.” So why would we elect someone to the presidency whose very presence in the White House undermines the anti-drug message?

Recently in South Carolina (see links below) both a Republican and a Democrat were knocked out of a congressional race by sex scandals. In South Carolina, at least, people know where the line is drawn. Sex scandals and public hypocrisy are unacceptable.

But there does not appear to be a similar “bright line” for the presidency. Yet. Maybe I can help draw one.

Let me put the question to you another way. Do we want to have standards for moral conduct and personal behavior for those we consider electing to the presidency? Or does “anything go?” Are we willing to overlook and forgive and forego any examination of serious drug abuse in the candidates we consider for the presidency just because the abuse took place in a candidate’s high school years or early 20’s? The Washington Post has already told us “high school counts” when evaluating conservative candidates. How about liberals? Do their high school and college experiences also matter in considering their qualifications?

My purpose in writing these remarks is not to preach. It is to raise the question of whether because of Bill Clinton’s sexual escapades and Barack Obama’s drug abuse we have begun a slow but seriously destructive public policy of overlooking a candidate’s personal behavior.

How can a president or first lady proclaim a national policy of “fighting drug abuse” when we elect a man to serve as president who has a history of drug abuse? Is our policy “forgive and forget?” Or should there be consequences for earlier drug abuse?

During the 2000 presidential campaign I was criticized by Republicans for raising the question of then-Governor George W. Bush’s drug abuse and alcoholism. Like Obama, Bush was a drug and alcohol abuser well into his 20’s. Jeb Bush, the governor’s brother, attacked me and corrupted his gubernatorial power to harass me. Ari Fleischer, now a CNN “contributor,” also attacked me. But drug abuse was as relevant to Bush as it is to Obama. In speaking to what should be a “national” policy I do not recognize a double standard for Democrats and Republicans, conservatives and liberals. I have questioned whether candidates of both parties should be held to account. I am consistent. The liberal media have not been.

The American people need to demand, as I have been demanding since 2004 (see links below), that Barack (Obama stop lying to us and “come clean.” The American people have a right to demand that the media either “do their job” or step aside so that new media and independent media can examine Obama’s drug abuse and provide facts for an intelligent discussion on Obama’s fitness to serve as president.

As I said in 2008, and repeat today in 2012, Barack Obama is still very much “The Man Behind the Mask.” By refusing to examine Obama’s personal past the American people have been “defining deviancy down” without even realizing that is what we are doing.

I warned about Obama in 2008; many did not want to listen. I’m issuing warnings about him in 2012. We’ll see if voters listen this time. Obama has hinted to us what “reelection” means to him; freedom for him to destroy our institutions and to impose his radical socialist agenda by presidential diktat. He has also comforted his Russian buddies with the knowledge that it’s “reelection time.”

Obama himself has warned us big time what he plans to do if he is reelected; it’s no longer “high school.” In this election cycle Obama is “for real.”

I’m scared about Obama. Are you? Let’s have an intelligent discussion, deal with Obama’s facts, and ask voters to do likewise.

Sarah Palin joins Andy Martin in Obama birth certificate quest

U.S. Senate candidate Andy Martin prepares to host the Second Annual Conference on Barack Obama’s missing birth certificate, in New York December 18-19. Mainstream media continue to lie to the American people about Barack Obama’s “original” birth certificate.

Sarah Palin joins the call for Obama to release his original Hawai’i birth certificate

Huffington Post, Politico, Ben Smith, Jed Lewison continue to lie to the American people

Sarah Palin and Andy Martin are not “birthers”

National conference set for New York City December 18-19

(NEW YORK)(December 4, 2009) Timing is everything. Earlier this week we formally announced the Second National Conference on Barack Obama’s Missing Birth Certificate and school records. As if on cue, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin endorsed our view that Obama should release his original birth certificate: http://www.dailykos.com/tv/w/002387/

Predictably, the mainstream media have launched attacks on Palin, using their same old lies about Barack Obama.

Ben Smith and Jed Lewison of Huffington Post (and Politico.com?) falsely claim that “FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate.” That is a bald-faced lie:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
2009/12/03/palin-goes-birther-
obama_n_379634.html

FACT: Obama’s ORIGINAL Hawai’i birth certificate has never been seen by FactCheck.Org or anyone else except possibly Dr. Chiyome Fukino of the State of Hawai’i Health Department. What Smith, Lewison and FactCheck.org saw is a laser print-out of information contained in a computer database. Nothing more. Why do these “journalists” keep lying to the public and claiming a print-out is a “copy?” Why? Whose cause are they really serving with their lies?

FACT: Neither Sarah Palin nor I are “birthers.” “Birther" is a term that the bogus media have invented to disparage persons who make legitimate inquiries about Obama’s origins in Hawai'i.

I have conducted on the scene scholarly research about Obama’s roots in Hawai’i. Our new movie could be released as early as next week: “Obama: The Hawai’i Years.”

What I have asked Hawai’i officials to do is produce their original “ribbon” copy of Obama’s 1961 birth certificate. (For those of you not old enough to know what a “ribbon copy” is, ancient devices known as "typewriters" used “ribbons” to make impressions on paper. Cormac McCarthy’s original 1963 typewriter is about to be auctioned as an antique. The original copy of a document, i.e. the one which the typewriter ribbon actually touched, was known as the “ribbon copy.”)

Hawai’i officials have never released Obama’s ribbon copy of his birth certificate, despite many demands, lawsuits, etc. I am continuing my litigation for access. Because I am currently a candidate for U. S. Senator [www.AndyforUSSenator.com], I was unable to actively pursue the litigation in August-November, but we are gearing up to go back to Hawai’i to pry loose the original, 1961 document once funds are available.

FactCheck.org does not claim that the bogus “original” they saw is in fact the 1961 document, or that their “document” is a photocopy of the original typewritten 1961 piece of paper. On its face the document purports to be nothing more than a database printout. Is this print-out a “legal” document? Yes, it is. But it is not a copy of Obama’s original birth record.

What is the significance of the missing document? The laser-printed output contains significantly less birth information than the original typewritten 1961 certificate.

So where do Sarah Palin and I on the one hand, and “birthers” differ? I have never stated that Obama was born anywhere but Hawai’i; nor, to the best of my knowledge has Governor Palin. We just want to review the original 1961 Hawai'i document to see what information Obama has concealed. It is a perfectly reasonable request to examine the original document because, love him or hate him, Obama is a figure in American history and his original birth document is a historical archive.

“Birthers,” on the other hand, have proffered wild claims that Obama was born in Kenya, or elsewhere. I have looked into these accusations and found no evidence to support them. No one has ever produced any credible or legally admissible evidence to sustain these claims. Bogus media, however like to clump everyone who wants access to Obama’s Hawai’i records as a “birther,” so they can tar and feather us with the antics of kooks such as Orly Taitz, Phil Berg and similar bunkum artists.

There is absolutely no connection between demands that Obama authorize release of what he claims is his original 1961 document and the entirely separate “birther” movement.

QUESTION: If Obama has nothing to hide, why is he still hiding the 1961 original? All he has to do is call Fukino and say “release it.”

Finally, I am gratified that both in her bestselling book and in her comments this week, Governor Palin has endorsed my efforts in 2008 to lay the unpleasant truths about Barack Obama before the American people:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=
j8zj_Fj3QpY&annotation_id
=annotation_259119&feature=iv

After taking advantage of my expertise, Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch attacked me without any basis to do so, in a mendacious attempt to grovel before Obama & Co. Murdoch has never apologized for his malignant behavior. But I have been vindicated by history.

My Fox news comments clearly predicted where Obama would lead this nation, and my appearance on Hannity's America became the single-most controversial TV moment in the entire 2008 presidential campaign, precisely because I “connected the dots" about Obama for a national TV audience.

Due to a seasonal lull in politics, on December 17th I will be heading to New York to prepare for the National Conference on Obama December 18-19th. Please go to our blog to register:

www.nationalconferenceonobama.blogspot.com

Thank you Governor Palin for once again speaking truth to power.

Andy Martin on the Sarah Palin brouhaha

Martin says John McCain defeated himself in 2008. Sarah Palin was not and is not to blame for McCain's incompetence as a presidential candidate.

ContrarianCommentary.com
Andy Martin
Executive Editor

“Factually Correct, Not
Politically Correct”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

John McCain lost the presidential campaign, not Sarah Palin

Memo to John McCain's anonymous backstabbers: man up

(NEW YORK)(July 8, 2009) One of the last stories in my book, "Obama: The Man Behind the Mask," is a riff on my contact with the Obama and McCain campaigns over a fax number (see pp. 412-413). Obama's people promptly gave me a fax contact. McCain's munchkins were incompetent to manage a fax number. They refused to give one out. That was not a good omen.

Some time in June, 2008 I came to the conclusion that the only way McCain could win was to pick a woman as vice president. It was the natural decision. At the time, Sarah Palin was not on my list. I thought he would go with someone more experienced in national politics. He didn't. He made a bold choice, and that brave decision succeeded beyond anyone's wildest expectations. But he failed to follow-up and follow-through.

Sarah Palin jump-started and energized more than the Republican "base." She got the electorate to pay attention to a fumbling elderly man who had up to then run a mediocre campaign.

At this point, I stop. Perhaps I am not the right one to be defending Sarah Palin in the wake of her resignation as governor. I am not a particular fan of hers. But perhaps I am a proper person to come to her defense exactly because I am not a wild Palin enthusiast.

Let me blunt: recent Republican efforts to demonize Sarah Palin and to ascribe blame to her for the loss of the McCain-Palin ticket are grossly untrue and unfair.

John McCain lost the presidential election, not Sarah Palin. She did everything that could have been expected of her, and more. He was a worthless candidate, the worst in recent memory.

It is time for McCain to "man up" and tell people he lost the election, not Palin. Using his unhappy campaign workers to stab Palin in the back is wrong.

Yes, Palin was not an expert in national and international affairs. But if McCain was thinking of picking her, why didn't he send a coach up there to Alaska to brief her? Yes, her interviews with national media were weak. But why wasn't she properly briefed by "her staff?"

The senator who created a campaign that couldn’t manage a fax machine (its in my book, yea) became the senator that couldn't really campaign at all. And yet up until the middle of September, McCain was neck and neck with Obama, thanks to the "Palin effect."

Then the senator threw his big hissy fit, suspended his campaign and suggested he would not debate because he had to go to Washington to save the world. Wrong move. He cratered. Obama handled his reaction beautifully. He allowed McCain to self-destruct.

The media themselves documented that there were serious questions about Obama's background and qualifications. I ended up being lashed on Page One by the New York Times as a way of deflecting national concern over Obama's opaque family history. McCain was oblivious. He never raised doubts, even slightly, about Obama's qualifications. The doubts were there; McCain ignored them. Some candidate. He forfeited the election.

McCain demonstrated the competence and subtlety of block of wood, and he deservedly lost. Obama may not have been the better man, but he was indisputably the better candidate. I voted for McCain because I knew what an Obama administration would mean. But it us hard not it look back and realize that John McCain handled the presidency to Barack Obama on a silver platter.

McCain was incapable of assembling a competent campaign staff, although he had two bites of the apple (we often forget his humiliating 2007 campaign collapse, after McCain wasted tens of millions of dollars).

Now in 2009 McCain's losers want to blame Palin. No thank you. I place the blame where the blame is due. If McCain had run a minimally competent campaign for the presidency, and prepared for each step of the process in a minimally coherent fashion, he would be sitting in the White House today. He had six months to pick a vice presidential candidate. Any problems with Palin were McCain's, not Palin's.

Back to Sarah.

I unhesitatingly believe that despite her missteps, Palin was a net plus to the campaign.

But her performance since November, 2008 raises troubling questions. And, yes, whatever her future plans, resigning office in the middle of a term is not a good strategy. Unless.

Unless Palin is negotiating a national media gig, say a TV program, and wants to be free to move her personal life to a national platform without the baggage of managing the state of Alaska. If that turns out to be the case (and no one knows as of today) her premature resignation will be long forgotten by 2010 or 2012.

The claim that Palin resigned because she was subjected to frivolous ethics complaints is insulting to the intelligence. By definition, if a claim is baseless or unsubstantiated, defeating such a complaint should not cost "thousands of dollars" as one conservative publication has suggested. I don't for a minute believe such tommyrot.

If Palin has an as-of-yet-undisclosed plan, or is negotiating a deal for a national TV platform, her resignation makes sense. If she had asked me for advice, however, I would have suggested she make the transition from public official to commentator or
entertainer at the same time, without triggering all of the suspicion and paranoia that filled the 4th of July weekend.

People usually announce decisions on a holiday weekend when they have something to hide (that tactic is a favorite Obama maneuver). By acting as she did when she did, Palin left the impression she had something to hide.

Finally, Palin should have learned one thing from John McCain. The public can accept the occasional lapse or quirky behavior from a national politician. We're all human, and we all make mistakes. But an approach to media and communication that constantly involves herky-jerky behavior will grow old quickly. Whatever her ultimate goal, Palin handled the 4th of July weekend poorly.

Nevertheless, the effort to blame Palin for McCain's loss is unmanly. McCain should publicly apologize to Palin for the abusive behavior of McCain's anonymous backstabbers. McCain's incompetence as a candidate was there for everyone to see. It was so obvious, so early that his deficient campaign management was included in my book, published in July, 2008, and should have come as no surprise to anyone. If anything, McCain's campaign jokers misused and abused Palin, not vice versa.

I don’t agree with Sarah Palin on many issues, but I wish her the best as she goes forward. As for McCain, his incompetence stuck us with Barack Obama and Obama's left-wing posse in control of our nation.

What do you say to McCain? Maybe that John McCain is the one who owes us a continuing apology, not Sarah Palin.
