(NEW YORK)(June 30, 2008) By the looks of it, we have created a firestorm across the Internet, and across the presidential campaign. What is a little amazing is that this mountain of controversy comes just as my new book "Obama: The Man Behind The Mask" goes on sale nationally. Timing is everything.

And, since people who have no particular desire to help sales of my book generate all of the publicity, it all leaves you believing in divine intervention. Nevertheless, "Obama: The Man Behind the Mask," already a bestseller, is now headed for blockbuster status.

What explains all of this continuing conflict over Senator Barack Obama's religious beliefs? There are a number of factors.

First, the liberal mainstream media establishment insists on blatantly deceiving readers and viewers. Matthew Mosk of the Washington Post wrote an article about my columns, but he put the picture of someone else, Danielle Allen, on the story. Mosk neglected to tell his readers that Allen was an Obama contributor who had been an Obama defender in print media for years; in all likelihood an Obama campaign operative. Readers were deceived into believing Mosk's fairy tale that Allen "woke up one morning" and decided to take up a spear for Obama. Mosk's basic story line was a blatant sham.

Once the Internet focused on the Post's reporting, Allen was humiliated, Mosk was disgraced, and the Post's reputation for fairness and balance was in tatters. Mosk's article boomeranged on the Obama campaign.

The only one left standing with an intact reputation was me.

Second, despite Obama's lies, he grew up in a Muslim family. I am not going to hyperlink every story that confirms that fact. It is a fact. It is useless and counterproductive for Obama to deny that fact. Why does he persist in lying? About his childhood, for God's sake? Obama is clearly in deep denial about his convoluted upbringing, unstable mother, scandalous father and hapless stepfather.

Third, childhood religious experiences matter. They matter a great deal. Obama admitted to a New York Times reporter in 2007 that Obama could still recite Muslin prayers in flawless Arabic. That learning did not come by accident or overnight. It came through relentless drilling in the Arabic language. (Whether we call it rote memorization or repetition, the effect is the same; the Islamic prayers were drilled into his brain. Just ask a Roman Catholic friend about similar "drilling.") I have also quoted the old Jesuit saw that says "If we have a boy until he is seven years old, we have him for life." The Muslim religion had Obama in various forms until he was around ten.

Important note: when Obama moved in with his grandparents, they made no effort to displace his Muslim heritage because they had no religious beliefs of their own to substitute. Since children don’t begin to develop reasoning powers until eight or nine, Obama's Muslim roots remained by default.

Fourth, journalistic integrity matters. When I first began writing about Obama's religious roots, conservatives were suspicious. I have differences of opinion with some conservatives on U. S. Middle East policy. "How," conservatives asked, "could someone such as Andy Martin, who is sympathetic to the Muslim point of view, be 'exposing' Barack Obama?" The reason I could write about Obama with a clear conscience is that I owe my only loyalty to the truth, and through the truth to my readers and listeners.

Yes, I do have sympathies, and I am honest and open about them. But I never let my personal views interfere with the facts. Although no one will ever thank me for it, I have probably screened out more anti-Obama trash than anyone else. If there is no truth behind the facts, I won’t get behind the story.

So, where do we stand on the eve of publication of my blockbuster book?

The book has large amounts of new commentary that have never appeared anywhere. Regular readers of my columns will want to obtain a copy to see how I analyze old issues and look to the future. There is also an anthology of collected columns to show how I kept digging relentlessly for the truth about Obama. The book is designed to be readable and accessible, a take-it-to-the beach-and-enjoy volume. I write for Hillary Clinton Democrats (those of media myth anyway) as well as country club Republicans. As we say in my own church, the Episcopal Church, "All are Welcome," to buy a copy of the book.

Second, the Washington Post's ombudsman Deborah Howell will face a firestorm when she returns. She is apparently on vacation. The Post handled the Andy Martin/Danielle Allen story very, very badly. Readers were at least misled and possibly deceived. Matt Mosk has egg on his face. (Interestingly, Mosk treated me fairly and accurately, so I have no personal beef with the WP.)

Third, Barack Obama's "Fightthesmears.com" shenanigans have exploded in his face. Again.

Fourth, I have become the conservative poster boy for self-identified "hard left" media loonies such as Christopher Hayes of "The Nation" and Ben Smith of Politico.com. They will stop at nothing to smear me with lies, damn lies and more lies. In fact, in order to placate the "hard left," I have had to invent the fantasy of ContrarianCommentary.com's massive underground command and control bunker in Midtown Manhattan, where I manipulate coverage of the 2008 presidential election. Keith Olbermann has a standing invitation to visit. I only ask that Mr. Hayes and the others who have made me a poster boy keep it clean. No Page Six stuff, Keith.

Finally, ContrarianCommentary.com and its related blogs remain America's #1 political blog on the 2008 presidential race because we are independent, impartial and honest. That is a lot more than I can say for Barack Obama and his sycophants in the mainstream media. You keep reading and I'll keep writing. As Sergeant Joe Friday would always intone, "Just the facts, ma'am."

August: CBS News asks voters in a poll what they think Obama's religion is. Seven percent think he is Protestant, 7 percent say Muslim, and 84 percent don't know or don't answer.
Mid-November: The Obama campaign posts a dossier on its Web site titled "Obama Has Never Been A Muslim, And Is a Committed Christian." It includes testimonials from religious leaders vouching for Obama's faith.
December 5: Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign acknowledges an Iowa volunteer forwarded a version of the email. "This was wholly unauthorized, and we were totally unaware of it," Patti Solis Doyle, Clinton's campaign manager, tells The New York Times. "Let me be clear: No one should be engaging in this."

March: An NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll asks:
Do you know what Barack Obama's religion is?
Of those who know, 37 percent answer Protestant (includes United Church of Christ, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Episcopal, Presbyterian and other Christians), 13 percent say Muslim.
April: A Newsweek poll shows the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy has no impact on public perceptions about Obama's religion. The portion of the voting population that believe he is Muslim remains 13 percent — and that belief is higher (16 percent) among those described as working class whites.
April 21: Obama tells The New York Times:
"It's not just that I'm a Christian and some of these emails are misinforming people. They're also feeding on anti-Muslim sentiment and that's also wrong."
June 12: The Obama campaign unveils a Web site called Fight the Smears to address the email rumors.

Re: Matt Mosk, "An Attack That Came Out of the Ether"

Dear Ms. Howell:

I would like to ask you to look into Mast Mosk's article "An Attack That Came Out of the Ether."

I am quoted in the article, extensively, and generally accurately. In so far as it applies to me, I have no problems with the story.

But the article itself has serious deficiencies. I will list just a couple:

1. In my news conference yesterday I raised the question of Ms. Allen using a tax-exempt facility to do partisan political research when she was presumably hired to pursue more meaningful activity at the Princeton IAS. Some of the many posts on your web site raised the same topic. Is Allen's "e-mail" project something Allen is claiming as an academic pursuit under the IAS? People would want to know. I am surprised that Mr. Mosk did not question why a tax-exempt facility is being used as a political opposition research operation, or whether Allen applied to be funded to pursue this activity.

2. Closely associated with the first question is the more critical question of how Mr. Mosk identified Ms. Allen to do a full-page article on an unknown person.

A simple Google search will confirm that Ms. Allen's name has never been liked to Obama politically; no one has ever suggested she is a "political expert" as we understand the term in common English. In short there was no public track for Mr. Mosk to pursue. So how did Mr. Mosk find Ms. Allen?

It appears that Mosk was steered to Allen by the Obama campaign. A reasonable journalist (and I am merely an author and opinion columnist, see ContrarianCommentary.blogspot.com and ContrarianCommentary.com) would ask, how did the Post learn about Allen and what does the Post know about what Allen has shared with the Obama campaign concerning her "research?" My news conference release from yesterday is posted on the net and you can see it for yourself. (A copy is available on request.)

In other words, the biggest part of the story, and part that would undermine Ms. Allen's independence and credibility as "razor sharp" and all of the other nonsensical adjectives that were applied to her, is that she is nothing more than an Obama campaign operative, albeit one violating federal tax laws by operating out of a tax-exempt operation. Ms. Allen did not just appear on Mosk's doorstep. The story of how he found this hitherto unknown "political" expert was an essential part of his story, and he completely omitted it. We expect partisans to be partisan; Mosk tried to suggest Allen just woke up one morning and spent the next year "researching" something, having no contact or coordination with the Obama campaign. That is simply not believable.

Since Mr. Mosk generally treated me fairly and accurately, I have no cavil with him. Nevertheless, I think he treated the Post's readers unfairly and cavalierly by not telling them the whole truth about Ms. Allen and how he came to encounter her. How he found her, when she had no public track record, is an obvious question of foundational interest to any reader. Clearly, the reasonable inference is that he was directed to her by the Obama campaign. That part of the story was essential to assessing and evaluating Allen's credibility and Mosk omitted those facts. I think a little "full disclosure" is due your readers, particularly inasmuch as for Saturday it became the most circulated article in the paper.

I know the Post strives for high standards; but high standards are meaningless if they are not accompanied by candor and full disclosure. The "how" of Mosk's encounter with Allen leaves a gaping whole in the "story."

I hope the Post will not discriminate against my new book by refusing to review it because of my opposition to Mr. Obama and his fairy tales.

Martin will also charge that far from being an innocent victim, Obama has been a perpetrator of the confusion over his religion and Obama is engaging in his own Internet terror tactics.

Martin says the Washington Post article is accurate and factual as it applies to him, but that the Post story raises more questions than it answers.

"In so far as my contact with the Post," Martin will state, "Mr. Mosk accurately reports my role and, as far as I can remember, correctly reports our interview.

"But Mosk produced an incomplete form of journalism. He writes a long article about Danielle Allen, but she is a very suspicious character to say the least. Mosk uncritically swallows Allen's story.

"First, despite the fact that Allen claims to have conducted exhaustive research, she never contacted me. How could she claim to be conducting 'research' without contacting the putative source? Scholarly research would have mandated even a pro forma contact.

"Second, Ms. Allen has been using tax exempt facilities to conduct her political research. Once again, an Obama supporter is caught apparently violating the law.

"Third, although she is identified as a 'political expert' there is no indication that Allen has any experience in politics whatsoever. Perhaps that is why Allen's research was so amateurish and deficient. Her online resume shows no political background, unless she wants to count studying ancient Athens as a model for Obama's role in the Chicago Democratic Machine.

"Fourth, neither Mosk nor Allen disclose any contacts Allen had with the Obama campaign, perhaps because of the sensitivity of using tax exempt facilities to conduct political research for Obama's campaign. How could Mosk write an article and leave out a question about Allen's contact with Obama's campaign?

"Ms. Allen's role is left hanging. She literally appears out of thin air. She claims to have accumulated masses of information, done research, and yet had no visible impact on the campaign until Mosk identified her on June 28th. Very, very strange. What impact has she had to justify her sudden appearance in the Post?

"Perhaps she is Obama's new 'Manchurian Surrogate,' spoon feeding the mainstream media Obama's perverted and distorted version of the truth about his religious roots.

"How did Mosk find Allen if she had no public record of any involvement? Obviously he was steered to her by the Obama campaign, a fact Mosk neglects to disclose. I would suggest that if Mosk was steered to her by the Obama campaign Mr. Mosk needs to write a follow-up story and disclose his own research record; it raises serious suspicions.

"The article says Allen met Obama as a 'dean,' but Obama had stopped teaching at the law school by the time Allen became a dean somewhere else in the university. There is an inconsistency here.

"Obama's own evasion is the architect of his religious confusion; he is also the orchestrator of his own Internet terror tactics to silence the truth.

"First, the problem with Barack Obama is not that he is a radical Muslim; the Post correctly states that I have never made such an accusation, and thus the New York Times story falsely claiming I was 'debunked' is defamatory.

"The problem is that Obama wants the American people to elect him as a man of mystery, a stealth candidate. It is undeniable that at least until the age of ten, Obama was raised in a Muslim environment. Yet he has assiduously pretended these religious roots do not exist. He states 'I have always been a Christian' when that is an objective lie. Why lie about his childhood?

"Second, Obama has taken to terrorizing Muslims to expunge any depiction of their existence in his campaign. That's why his staff removed two veiled women from a campaign event. Obama has sought to blame lowly staff workers; he always blames his staff when he is caught acting abusively.

"Third, Obama is guilty of the same Internet terror tactics as his opponents. He harasses anyone who challenges his fairy tales. I have been repeatedly attacked by Obama minions, and I keep fighting back.

"But I keep the public up to date about the facts, see http://barackobamawasamuslim.blogspot.com/

"Now that the Post has reported the accuracy of my research, if not Allen's, I will increase the intensity of my attacks on Obama for his prevarication, distortion and disinformation.

"In conclusion, I thank the Post for correctly reporting my own role, and not stooping to the demagoguery of the New York Times. But, unfortunately, while reporting correctly on me, the Post has unveiled Obama's new 'Manchurian Surrogate' for the media, Danielle Allen, an Africa-American woman who appears to have been rolled out by his campaign to undermine truth-tellers about his religious roots. Allen is apparently using taxpayer subsidies to conduct Obama's political research. Ms. Allen has a lot of explaining to do.

"With all due respect to Mr. Mosk, how he found the
secretive Ms. Allen now becomes the story. Why she never surfaced until June 28th, and how she surfaced, and when, are equally unanswered questions. Has the Post been inadvertently duped? Was the Post knowingly used by the Obama campaign to propagate more religious disinformation?

"I would be remiss if I did not end with a plug for my new book, 'Obama: The Man Behind The Mask.' Guests on Sean Hannity have also started pilfering my book's imagery. The book has gone to the printer and will be available nationally within days. I detail my four years of very public research—unlike Allen's surreptitious claims to have researched Obama—to unmask the very secretive and evasive Mr. Obama.

"If I say so myself, my book is a great read and well worth the price. Internet buyers get priority, since we are already oversold for the first edition," Martin states. "And if anyone finds factual inaccuracies in my writing, just let me know and I will correct them. I have always aim to be scrupulously accurate and I have succeeded."

"Our book goes to press within hours," says Andy Martin, Executive Editor of ContrarianCommentary.com. "Indeed, we have had reports—unconfirmed to date—that the media are lifting concepts from our own book on a wholesale basis.

"One of the reasons for Barack Obama's success is that right-wing writers try to smear the senator. We have taken a balanced approached, which we call 'Just the facts, ma'am' from Dragnet. We reject as much anti-Obama material as we publish, because much of it is inaccurate and spiteful. We are not hesitant to land tough blows on the good senator, but we strive to hit him with accurate ones.

"Regnery is obviously trying to stop our book by issuing misleading claims and statements. That in itself is a sign they may be coming out with a smear, not a real character study, of Obama.

"Sean Hannity was apparently confused by Regnery's claims because he described another book using terms that exclusively relate to mine. A search of Regnery's web site indicates they are issuing 'vaporware;' there is nothing there about any Obama book. Mine is the only one in print.

"There is nothing wrong with good, old-fashioned, hardnosed competition in the publishing industry. But distributing disinformation disserves the truth. We have a very solid reputation for strong and independent analysis; 'Obama: The Man Behind The Mask' will build on that library of commentary.

"A book on Obama that is going to have impact must argue the case against him carefully, with credibility, not on the basis of the drive-by right-wing hatchet job apparently contemplated by Regnery. That kind of writing will only strengthen, not weaken, Obama.

"The left-wing in America is united on one issue involving myself and Obama: my work has inflicted grievous damage on Obama's reputation and raised serious questions about the senator's character, candor and fitness for the presidency. Such unanimity by the left-wing about my writing is the best endorsement any writer could hope to obtain," Martin remarked.

Obama's first TV commercial invites viewers to join him in "Fantasyland"

Is Obama the product of "strong families and strong values?" "Give me a break, says Andy

(NEW YORK)(June 20, 2008) Obama has released his first TV commercial of the general election campaign. It is an excursion into Obama's own Fantasyland.

Obama says "America is a country of strong families and strong values. My life has been blessed by both." Unfortunately, the claims about himself are fantasies. Obama's family life was not "blessed" (nice Christian term, that) by either a strong family or strong values.

In the next line of the ad he goes on to claim "I was raised by a single mother…" Obama's mother was anything but an exemplary parent. And she appears to have been the first source of his anti-American values.

As an 18 year-old, Mrs. Obama became pregnant by a married foreign student. Such behavior hardly reflected a strong family or strong values in 1960. Indeed, Obama himself admits his parents may never have married, which is why no marriage license/certificate has ever surfaced (we are looking for one). Any marriage would have been a crime in Hawaii, because his father was already married and would have become a bigamist.

In other words, Obama has been living a lie about his parents his entire life, and he knows it.

Strong values? Mrs. Obama appears to have hated America as much as she disdained American boys as social contacts.

Mrs. Obama dragged her son to Indonesia, to live with yet another foreign father, and then dumped him back on her parents when Barry became a 10 tear-old and obviously more difficult to manage. After returning to Hawaii to complete a post-graduate degree, Mrs. Obama-Soetero-Dunham then spent much of the rest of her life in Indonesia.

Obama has made a point of the fact that his mother collected food stamps, at a time while he was attending an expensive private academy. "Ripping off the man" sounds more like it. Obama's mama was some drama.

Obama's grandparents, whom he loved and disdained at the same time, were solid people. But only so far. Did Obama receive religious values from his grandparents? Sadly, no. They were atheists or agnostics or something in between. But what they were not is church-going people. Hardly representative of "Kansas values." Obama was left to wander through adolescence with the confused and incomplete faith tradition of Islam, until he finally accepted Jesus Christ at some unspecified point later in his life.

One of the "Two Obamas," the coldly calculating opportunist who is on the brink of capturing the White House, did not come from either a solid family or solid values. Rather, in his disoriented and disorganized young life, "Barry" Obama learned to take what he wanted, and to put himself first, last and always. Obama is the product of a seriously dysfunctional family and a grossly confused and conflicting set of values. The values he spouts in his new TV ad are those written by his TV image makers, not the ones he learned in his early years.

In "Dreams From My Father," Obama's marvelous novel (not "autobiography") of his early years, Obama admitted that he was forced to create fairy tales and live in a dream world about his father and his life. He also says his mother encouraged those imaginary excursions. She herself also had a hard time living in the real world (America) or making normal social contacts with American men.

Obama is still living in his fairy tale bubble today. Moreover, children who are abandoned by one parent, or both parents as in Obama's case, develop fantasies and coping mechanisms to deal with the misery of their reality. Their frustration and alienation is overwhelming. And permanent.

Obama developed a very powerful fantasy world to deal first with a father who abandoned him, and then a mother who abandoned him; he is still living with and in those childhood delusions. Later he had to confront the reality of a father who was a drunken rake and bigamist, and who fathered eight children by numerous women. "Strong family and strong values?" Give me a break.

Obama is asking the American people to join him in a "Fantasyland" constructed of his own childhood imagination and images. We should decline the invitation. The consequences of accepting Obama at face value will not be a fantasy. It will be a "long national nightmare."

(NEW YORK)(June 17, 2008) It is not often I give Senator Barack Obama a point; but when he deserves one, he gets it.

Today I had reason to contact both Obama's and Senator John McCain's national headquarters. The responses could not have been more different. Someone needs to teach McCain how to run a national campaign, or hire someone who does.

I called Obama's office first, worked my way through the phone tree, ("press 6") and someone promptly and crisply answered. I asked for a fax number, and she gave it to me.

Whether Obama's people like or dislike my communication, later today they will receive a fax. End of discussion. Obama's national office ran efficiently. Very impressive.

Then I called McCain's national campaign headquarters. It took forever for someone to answer the phone (try it). The first time I called I pushed buttons to get to someone's extension. No one answered. No one returned the call.

The second time I called I pushed the button for the press office, and some idiot munchkin answered. (Luckily for him, I did not ask for his name or it would be here.) McCain's Munchkin said they do not release a fax number, "to keep it open for incoming and outgoing faxes." Oh really. I pointed out that it was unusual for a national campaign to be run as a clandestine operation, especially by someone working in the press office.

Then the munchkin told me to write a letter to McCain's post office box.

I got nowhere. The munchkin was made of pure tree stump.

I tried asking for the person's e-mail address that I wanted to contact. "On, no," the munchkin said, "We can't give that out either. Maybe we can give you a general e-mail address and I'll try to see he gets it."

"Not good enough," I said. At that point I had had enough and wasted enough time talking to the idiot in McCain's press office at national headquarters.

I hope McCain upgrades his national staff. If he can’t do a better job of communicating with the outside world and responding to people who contact his office, his campaign will lack the heft to go forward after Labor Day when the real hand-to-hand combat with the Democrats begins. As for the McCain munchkin with the secret fax machine and secret e-mail address? He is probably looking out the window. Watching the grass grow.

McCain may have experience on his side. But if his national headquarters is any guide, he sure doesn't have competence. Maybe it's time for a smattering of the legendary McCain temper at headquarters.

"What Obama is trying to do is control the truth, and to mandate that Obama's version of the 'truth' is the only truth. Christians have been trying to agree on the 'truth' for two thousands years, and they haven’t yet succeeded. Obama won’t either.

"Obama has been trying to airbrush reality his entire life, first to suit himself and not to fit his national ambitions. But his fantasies and delusions are far removed from objective truth. In fact, there are so many lies about Obama floating around precisely because he is a habitual liar himself. His method of massaging facts into fiction to serve his own interests creates its own backlash. His own evasions and prevarications fuel the opposition. The way he engaged in a serial 'modified limited hangout' about his close relationship with Tony Rezko, going through version after version of 'full' disclosure, shows how he is his own worst enemy.

"I read the snippets he posted on his 'Smear' site and, aside from the one 'smear' that he says does not exist (I am rereading his books again to check for myself), the 'smears' that he documents result from differing interpretations of his own somewhat convoluted and often opaque language. He can’t brand everything he disagrees with a 'smear' just because the prose in his books is dense enough to allow for differences of opinion.

"And so, I am left with the big question: whose brilliant idea inside Obama's campaign was it to create this self-defeating and self-destructive anti-smear site? It is going to have precisely the opposite impact from what was intended.

"In the meantime, my book will offer a unique insight into Obama and the cesspool of Illinois politics where he first learned to swim.

"Obama's mud merchants have been smearing me with all sorts of lurid accusations. I think he would get more votes if he told the truth, certainly more than he is going to lose by telling a lie. Muslims vote too. The issue, therefore, is not 'religion' in fact, but his relentless pursuit of propaganda and disinformation to obscure what that religion was up to the age of 10.

"Obama was never much of a lawyer, and he never tried a lawsuit in court, but even from his Harvard student books he should have learned that dissembling and evasion are crucial to credibility. When Obama lies about the truth, the fact that he is willing to lie is a critical aspect of his character.

"Obama's entire 'Fight the Smears' web site is itself a smear of Islam, and a smear of the truth. Obama uses his 'defense' of smears to propagate smears, and to produce relentless lies and disinformation. It is on that basis that I challenge him and his fitness to sit in the Oval Office.

"I also challenge Obama to sue me for defamation concerning my claims about his religion. The only defense I will offer is 'truth.' I don’t care what religion his mom and dad and step dad chose for him; I do care that he lies about those objective truths and facts, and continues to do so brazenly and blatantly. No one can read Kristof's 2007 column and come away believing Obama's lies. He studied the Koran, and he still speaks Koranic Arabic with a 'first-rate accent.' How many non-Muslims can recite Islamic prayers the way Obama can?

"Contrary to what Obama claims, this Internet author is
propagating the truth about Obama's religious past, not 'smears' and not 'lies.' I have no interest in publishing false information. Obama is the liar, plain and simple. Stop it Barry. Or sue me."

(NEW YORK)(June 13, 2008) There were floods in the Midwest Thursday evening, but the water overflowing the river banks was a trickle compared to the mainstream media's slobbering over Barack Obama's desperate attempt to "Fight the Smears." http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/fightthesmearshome/

From fashionable Fox News on the right to MSNBC on the loony left, the verdict was unanimous: Obama's confession that his campaign strategy for the past two years had failed was greeted with approbation and enthusiasm. "Fighting smears" was the message of the day and the media duly swallowed that sardine whole.

Is it any wonder the power of Internet-based journalists is growing? When no one in the mainstream media stands up and offers a dissenting opinion or a contrarian take on Obama's desperate "anti-smear" gamble, there is something drastically wrong with MSM coverage of the campaign. (Sean Hannity claims he is not part of the "mainstream media," but Fox News is absolutely part of the pack.)

Four years ago I disclosed that Barack Obama was fighting to conceal his family's religious roots in the Muslim faith. Because some conservatives consider me a sympathizer with Muslim causes, there was initial confusion when I was identified as the source of the Obama disclosures. But I have no pro or anti-Muslim agenda. "Just the facts, Mam'm." I just place the facts in the record and let readers decide. For my integrity and independence in digging out the truth about Obama I have been vilified by almost everyone.

And Tuesday night there they were, the mainstream panjandrums such as Chris Matthews (he of the "wet leg" when Obama enters a room) pontificating "Obama was never a Muslim" and words to that effect.

As is so often the case when the mainstream media are united in their incompetence and mendacity, the truth was exactly the opposite of that being preached on TV.

Obama's "Fight the Smears" site is not an attempt to debunk lies or "smears." Rather, the site is a confession of failure; a very risky gamble and one that I strongly feel will boomerang and blow up in his face. Obama is trying, once again, to conceal the truth with bombastic attacks on anyone who dares publish the facts about his religious roots and prior history of unpopular remarks (more on these remarks in a subsequent column).

Why are the media concealing the truth and depriving their viewers and readers of truthful information?

First, they are slobbering over the fact that Obama might just become president. So they are already genuflecting to their future king. The media toads are already toadying.

Second, the mainstream media dropped the ball on Obama's religious roots. The truth that Obama tried so desperately to conceal did not originate in the Washington Post or New York Times. The truth originated with my newspaper, ContrarianCommentary.com and its predecessors. Mainstream media are always incensed when they are scooped on a story, especially when the scooper is a pisher publisher, not the mighty Chicago Tribune.

Third, the truth hurts. The truth hurts because Obama has said for the past two years that he would ignore and suppress the truth about his religious roots and hope it would go away. I have not gone away; the truth has not gone away and the percentage of Americans who suspect Obama is lying has steadily risen into the low teens. In other words—and may I take a bow on this one as the most influential columnist in any media today—my original research has been disseminated and regurgitated (not always accurately) to such an extent that the power of the truth has completely overwhelmed the ability of the mainstream media to suppress the facts.

My name does not appear under the masthead of the New York Times or the Washington Post, but I have gained credibility because I publish the facts and they refuse to do likewise. Fox News passed over me as an analyst for the Iraq war because I was too honest and too independent. I went to Baghdad and broke more news and criticism on the incompetence of the American mission than anyone else but John McCain.

The Nation, a leftish magazine, has published two attacks on me as the orchestrator of a CapitalOne-advertisement-style vast underground "smear machine." Since when did telling the truth become a "smear?" I invited The Nation's publisher to visit my secret bunker deep under midtown Manhattan, where we orchestrate the disinformation that confuses virtually everyone from ethnic groups to our own adversarial mainstream colleagues on the surface. Perhaps that will fulfill her fantasies about how we operate.

The reality is far more modest. I may not be as powerful as The Nation suggests, but I am willing to claim that ContrarianCommentary.com has been right more often than not during the 2008 election cycle. That's why Obama is running scared. He knows I am in hot pursuit.

In our Obama "war room" at ContrarianCommentary.com we are flooded every day with negative information about Barack Obama. We publish only a tiny fraction of the material we receive. Sometimes I am criticized for what we don't publish. But can anyone point to any errors we have published about Obama? I don’t think so. We do our own independent due diligence before a story or an accusation appears. I have never written that Obama attended a "madrassa." Others added that embellishment.

Likewise, I have never said that Obama "is" a Muslim. Obviously he is not. In our First Amendment republic people are free to worship as they please. Even if they worship at the altar of Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Fourth, the mainstream media are in steady decline. The Chicago Tribune is now being run into the ground by a man whose prior claim to fame was that he made a fortune evicting helpless poor people from trailer parks. He jumped from mean-spirited evictions to mean-spirited attitudes towards his own reporters.

I follow the story where I know it leads. And after 40 years in the courthouses of Chicago, I know my way around the sewers of that city.

When I reported in November 2006 that Obama's ties to indicted influence peddler Tony Rezko were far more extensive than he was admitting, the mainstream media yawned. Who was right, and who missed the story? When Rezko's trial began I said more about Obama would come out. There was testimony Obama was acting as arm candy for Rezko during his 2004 senate campaign; Obama said he "didn't remember" meeting one of the richest people in the world.

Obama went through years of denials, evasions and prevarications, and the full truth about Tony Rezko is still not known.

But we will have new insights in Obama: The Man Behind the Mask, which goes to the printer in days.

To my loyal readers and those who join us every day, I say, "welcome." To my competitors, I ask, "How many websites is Obama going to have to put up to counter our writing before you admit that Obama's strategy has been an abject failure, not the wonderful idea to 'fight smears' you were suggesting in unison on June 12th?"

And for Senator Obama, I have a promise: we will do our best to publish only true and accurate charges and opinions about you, because we know that it is precisely the truth about yourself that you fear the most.

Just remember, we are a hell of a lot more influential than our competitors up on the surface. And if you don’t believe my claims, or think we are exaggerating our influence, just ask the Obama people. They know we're telling the truth. They just put up a web site to "stop the smears," which in reality is a web site to control the truth and deprive voters of the facts. Maybe Obama should have called it the "StopContrarianCommentary.com" site.

Luckily, our readers and the American people are smarter than the mainstream media. Which is why the Internet rules.

"Apparently desperate, Barack Obama announced Thursday he has begun a web site to fight 'rumors,'" Martin will state. "To be sure, some of what is said about Obama is exaggerated or untrue. I refuse to publish a great deal of anti-Obama material that crosses my desk. But much of what Obama characterizes as 'rumor' is true. Obama has been lying about his family and his religious past his entire life. This time he will not get away with his lies."

"Obama says in large print and underlines 'Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian," Martin states. "Two thirds of that claim are bald-faced lies. The last third, about Obama's Christianity, has never been adequately documented. Most people who are baptized have a Baptismal Certificate. I call on Obama to release his Baptismal Certificate or record. Many Americans do not believe that sitting in the pews, listening to Reverend Jeremiah Wright's racist jeremiads for two decades qualifies anyone to be a 'committed Christian.' Committed racist and America-hater, maybe.

'Most importantly, by denying his Islamic roots, Obama unfairly and unnecessarily stigmatizes Muslims. Despite current controversies, Islam is one of the world's great religions. No one can pretend otherwise. Not even Barack Obama.

"I have asked the State of Hawaii to release Obama's birth certificate. If Obama really wants to clear the air, let's see what religion was listed on his birth certificate. Obama was never much of an attorney so he may not be aware of the 'adverse inference rule,' but if he fails to disclose his birth certificate and refuses to allow me to purchase a copy directly from the state, the American people are entitled to draw the adverse inference that the birth certificate says Obama was a Muslim at birth. "First, his father Barack Hussein Obama, Senior, was a Muslim from the day of his birth to the day of his burial. His grandfather was also a devout Muslim. 'Barack' is a name with Arabic origins. The woman he falsely tries to pass off as his real 'granny' is a devout Muslim. Virtually all of his Kenyan relatives appear to be Muslims.

"Fourth, Obama himself, and his sister, have admitted they occasionally attended Mosque with his stepfather Lolo Soetero in Jakarta.
"Fifth, Obama's mother or stepfather registered him as a Muslim at public school in Jakarta. The actions of his parents speak louder than Obama's belated denials.
"Sixth, as I disclosed at a Washington, DC news conference in March, Obama had close ties to the Nation of Islam and flirted with joining that religious denomination. He considered joining the NOI as an adult.
"Did Obama change his religion and abandon Islam? Apparently he did. He had a First Amendment constitutional right to do so. In this country. But that abandonment raises a new series of questions, as the CSM article makes clear. Will Muslim nations recognize Obama's religious renunciation?
"The bottom line: I have sent a check to Hawaii to order Obama's birth certificate. I challenge him to send me a letter approving release of the certificate to me. If he refuses to do so, I will assume he is possibly doing so to cover up the religion disclosed on the certificate.
"Second, Obama should take down his bogus Muslim-denial site, and come clean with the American people. He should say 'My father was a Muslim. I was born into that faith. When I was old enough to choose for myself, I was baptized into Christianity on (insert date and produce baptismal certificate). I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.' Anything less is more of his habitual evasiveness.
"Obama is trying a Watergate-style 'modified limited hangout.' It won't work. Indeed, his new site is going to backfire on him. This time he is not going to get away with lying, or misleading, or fibbing, or dissembling. The truth will prevail, and the truth is, Barack Obama was a Muslim," Martin will state.

DEMAND FOR RETRACTION AND NOTICE OF INTENT TO SUE

Dear Publisher:

I wish to notify you that you have posted false and defamatory information about me on your web site, and possibly in an upcoming edition of your magazine. If a prominent apology and withdrawal are not promptly forthcoming we will sue.

Your latest defamation makes a number of utterly false and scurrilous statements:

1. You claim that Senator Barack Obama, speaking to the AIPAC conference last week, was validating and responding to the fact that I am the “source of the rumors being used to spook Jewish voters…” I have nothing to do with any rumors being used to “spook” Jewish voters and know nothing about their source.

Barry Obama has problems with Jewish voters because of his long associations with anti-Semites and anti-Americans, not because of any e-mails I have circulated. As satirist Jackie Mason has suggested, any Jew who votes for Obama would be very misguided.

On the contrary, as early as 2004 I predicted what would happen when the truth about Obama became known. Accurately predicting a course of events does not make you a participant in them. You should be saluting me for my prescience, not smearing me with false accusations; but that wouldn’t make as juicy a story for your Christopher Hayes, would it?

I am a legitimate investigative columnist journalist whose name has been attached to anything I have circulated. As near as I can tell, I am routinely criticized by both Democrats and Republicans, so I must be the honest man in the middle. I do not do anonymous.

2. I am not an anti-Semite. This is a vile accusation and constitutes libel per se. The only citation for this accusation was the fact that a quarter century ago I was involuntarily involved in a bogus bankruptcy dispute in which I exposed massive corruption in the local federal court in Connecticut.

As a result of my battles and exposures, two (2) potential candidates for the U. S. Supreme Court may have later been rejected (Judges Joe Cabranes and Jon O Newman; the judges are still angry at me, decades later). Pleadings in lawsuits are privileged precisely because they do not necessarily represent the views of counsel or parties. For you to seek to brand me as an anti-Semite in 2008 based on involuntary participation in a lawsuit 25 years ago is irresponsible, outrageous and libelous.

Moreover, there was never any due process determination of the accusations you reference. In one case the record reflects I was not even a party to a lawsuit (Eleventh Circuit) and was gratuitously attacked by mendacious judges. In the case where I was a party no hearings on these false accusations against me were held by the crooked judges (Cabranes and Newman) involved. I exposed looting in the federal courts by local judges and their acolytes. In our society, judges do not have the power to brand people, and you certainly do not have the authority to accuse me of being an anti-Semite in 2008 based on undocumented accusations in a goofy lawsuit 25 years ago.

In point of fact, I am a strong critic of the U.S.’s Middle East policies, but I have also been a supporter of Israel. My Andy Martin Middle East Peace Plan in 2000 (available on the net with a little digging) called for U. S. troops to patrol the Green Line to separate Israelis from the new Palestinian nation and to protect each side from the other. A willingness to put Americans in harm’s way to protect Israelis is hardly evidence of anti-Semitism.

Barry Obama and his fellow travelers constantly circulate lies and false accusations about me to cover up and distract attention from his long history of anti-Semitism, from Reverend Jeremiah Wright to the Nation of Islam, to Father Michael Pfleger to (insert your own choice). I did not make Obama an anti-Semite. His record of anti-Semitism speaks for itself. Now Obama & Co. are trying to block sales of my new book on Obama, coming out this month, which is why The Nation is recirculating old smears. Why are they so afraid of me? Buy the book and find out.

I do not read the Nation but my views are generally considered to be well within the mainstream of Middle East peace discussions. Criticizing the “Israel lobby” does not make you an anti-Semite.

Mr. Hayes needs to go back to journalism school, and you need to supervise his writing much more closely. Hayes tries to create suspense out of nonsense. He asked me a year ago if I had written an anonymous attack piece on Senator Obama and I responded, “everyone who writes in this area is to some extent working off my original research.” That is in my opinion an absolutely correct statement of fact, which can be verified by looking on the Internet and seeing that people credit me with “outing” Obama in 2004. There is noting conspiratorial or improper about having made the unexceptionable claims about Obama that I presented then or since. They were all true in 2004 and they are true today (which is why Barry Boy is going down and taking the Democratic Party with him). And, to the best of my knowledge, I have never circulated any information or any e-mail about Obama without prominently attaching my name as the source. So your claim I am the mastermind of an anonymous “vast right-wing smear machine” is Hayes’ fantasy.

Because I have a book coming out this month (http://OrangeStatePress.com), and because I write generally on politics, your attacks on my credibility as a columnist and false accusations of anti-Semitism are libel per se. We recently sued the New York Times, and they have two law firms (with more to come) defending their nonsense, which was far less toxic than your own outrageous accusations.

If you would like to run a prominent apology and retraction promptly, I will not sue. Otherwise, we are headed to court.

but she did a nut cracking job on Senator Barack Obama Tuesday.

Obama finds himself under siege by a pincer movement with Clinton on one flank and senator John McCain on the other.

The utter fraudulence of anointing himself as his party’s candidate was brought home by Obama’s loss in South Dakota. Clinton surprised her opponent by winning a victory in a state Obama was expected to hold. Hillary forced an embarrassing split decision on Tuesday.

Not surprisingly, the mainstream media (MSNBC, CNN, Fox) missed the significance of the night. There was blather about Obama’s brilliant speech and McCain’s lackluster remarks. OK. Let me start by stating the obvious: Barack Obama is the best after-dinner speaker in America today. He is a true Toastmaster.

But Obama’s “speech” was just another tried and true rehash of his 2004 convention oratory. He has been recycling 2004 ever since then. Yes, it worked against the early Clinton in January and February. But Obama was trashed by Hillary in the later states. Despite Obama’s speeches and crowds he was not able to prevail in later primary states. And the latest primary of all comes in November.

The significance of Tuesday was not the speech making. Rather the fact that Clinton is still in, and McCain is on the attack, placed Obama in a pincer movement on his first night as a putative nominee. McCain launched his attack on Obama’s nonexistent record, and Clinton cited her record as a reason she is the best candidate to run against McCain.

The day began with reports Obama would claim victory. Clinton parried Obama with a “conference call” in which she announced her availability to be a vice president. In her speech she congratulated Obama for running, but not for “winning.” And she grabbed a primary night victory for an even split on the last day.

When analysts look back on Clinton’s campaign they will see that she was poorly served last year by the hangers on and “regime remnants” of the Clinton White House. It was only when Hillary took command that her campaign began to click. Obama won caucus states where affluent voters could show up at night and “vote” in what are essentially doctored and rigged insider elections. Clinton won primaries. Obama’s loss in South Dakota suggests he could not repeat today many of his earlier caucus victories. So Democrats are stuck with a nominee who ran downhill for the last half of the primary season. Not a great start.

In February I advised Hillary to “take it to the convention.” That is still my advice. She should take up the cause of party reform, and seek to abolish both caucuses and proportional voting. Some of the results were absurd: Obama won delegate pluralities in tiny states, while Clinton could not achieve any traction in the big states where she prevailed. Is this democracy? Obviously not.

Democrats need to tilt their campaign process more towards rewarding primary winners, and not favoring majorities in tiny states. The current process of allowing “red” (i.e. conservative) states to dominate the Democratic Party’s nominating process with caucuses and unbalanced primaries (e.g. Texas) places the Democrats in danger of choosing an unrepresentative nominee. The entire operation is illogical.

Finally, while Obama may believe he is the nominee he is only a very provisional choice. In reality he has only staked his claim, an uncertain claim at that. Obama is at the mercy of muckrakers and opposition researchers between now and the Denver convention. The reality is that he has delegates who are temporarily committed to him but are not legally bound to support him if he continues to run downhill over the summer.

Post-purchase anxiety may cause Democrats to wonder just who they have nominated. Obama’s flacks can talk all they want about history. But history teaches us that “historic” candidates often lose.

Will Hillary be offered the Vice President’s slot? Can’t say. Would she accept? I think she would. Is Obama going to have it easy now that he is the nominee? Not on your life. The pincer movement has just begun. And it is going to pinch.

Better order a Hillary nutcracker before they go out of stock. You may still need it. Walnuts anyone?
