“I have a longer analysis piece in progress,” Andy says. “But in view of the relentless media lynch mob directed at Donald Trump on Monday I wanted to explain today on an expedited basis how Donald Trump ‘wins’ by ‘losing’ Paul Ryan and how Trump is now free to refashion his campaign to serve the American people.

“I have nothing personal against Paul Ryan. He represents his district and he is elected by his colleagues. That’s fine. But Ryan was a dead weight for Trump and the national campaign.

“Ryan is the man who wanted to gut Medicare. Trump supports Medicare. Ryan is part of the lobbyist-industrial complex. For obvious reasons the lobbyist-industrial complex loathes Trump.

“There is nothing worse than false professions of party unity and personal piety emanating from Ryan and others. I wish Ryan the best. But his departure from the list of Trump’s ‘supporters’ is a major boon for Trump. Likewise, many of the other two-faced Republicans have benefited Trump by denying him.

“Trump’s biggest problem, apart from his colorful past, was that the Republican Party is massively unpopular with ordinary voters. Many Republican Party proposals are anti-consumer and anti-family, this from a party that professes to be pro-family. In the primaries, Trump won by de facto running against the party. He defeated all of the party’s favorites. He won by being a non-ideologue in an increasingly ideological political environment, both Democratic and Republican.

“I don’t agree with everything Trump says, but in my longer analysis I will explain why Trump’s ‘positions’ are immaterial, despite media demands for specificity. I will have more to say with my detailed analysis of why ‘Trump has already won the presidency and must now win the White House.’

“My own half-century of national political experience gives me an independent and ‘contrarian’ view of how skillful leaders can exploit cleavages even within their own ranks. By jettisoning Ryan, politely, Trump can now run as a man of no party who only seeks to serve the people. Trump can say that ideologues have abandoned him, and that Ryan’s departure is an endorsement of his independence. Ryan’s ‘support’ was always lukewarm at best. Ryan’s reliance on the ridiculous ‘sex tape’ as a pretext to withdraw his support of Trump is merely a pretext for ongoing, underlying discomfort related to differences on the real issues facing Americans.

“I don’t know if the Trump team is skillful and nimble enough to exploit Ryan’s departure but if they are, contrary to the latest media hysteria the departure of Paul Ryan and any fellow travelers will free Trump to win the White House. He has already won the presidency.

“The media have created a toxic environment and lynch mob atmosphere because the media is hardwired into Paul Ryan and the lobbyist-industrial-Clinton complex, not Donald Trump and the American people.”

Beginning in the summer of 2009 (see many links below) corruption fighting independent Internet columnist and blogger Andy Martin exposed U. S. Senator Mark Kirk as a military fraud and mental case. “My complaints to the Department of Defense prompted an investigation that resulted in a warning to Kirk, to stop abusing his military uniform as a political prop. But Kirk goes on lying and posting ridiculous photos. In 2010 he pretended to be a fighter pilot. CNN caught him this week in full battle dress, another fabrication and delusion. Kirk says it was a ‘mistake.’ And yet the local media in Chicago keep protecting Kirk. What is wrong with this picture?

“I may be a prophet without honor in Chicago, but I am a prophet who deals in the truth based on hard facts and evidence. Chicago’s media are complicit in Kirk’s fraud. The local TV stations and newspapers are equally culpable as liars for promoting and broadcasting Kirk’s lies.

“At my prompting, the Department of Defense (DOD) opened an in investigation of Kirk and admonished him to stop playing politics with his imaginary ‘deployments’ overseas, when he was never deployed anywhere,” Andy charges. “DOD has stringent rules prohibiting members of congress from ever being placed in harm’s way. Kirk’s claim that he came under fire in Afghanistan was delusional. His claim that he was ‘fighting’ is nonsense. His claim he told General Stanley McChrystal how to fight the war in Afghanistan is delusional. What is wrong with Chicago media that they publish such delusional claims by Kirk?

“Over and over again Chicago media scorned me for telling the truth about Kirk’s lies and presenting evidence to confirm my claims, all while exalting Kirk as a military impresario.

“I call on Mark Kirk to withdraw as a candidate for reelection. He is a disgrace to the Republican Party. I would very much like to see a Republican U. S. Senate elected in November. But if the price of a Republican senate is having to reelect a liar and fraud, then that price is just too high.

“This week CNN caught Kirk lying all over again. Notably, it was out-of-town CNN that exposed Kirk, not the local Tribune or Sun-Times.

While one of his Senate Republican opponents was attacking U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk in radio ads this holiday season, the five-term congressman and Naval Reserve officer was serving in Afghanistan. Kirk has now returned and will no doubt hit the media Thursday with his assessment of the Afghanistan war and President Barack Obama's handling of the failed airline bombing on Christmas Day. This is the second time the Highland Park Republican has served a brief tour in the war-torn country as an intelligence officer. Last year, he also deployed to Afghanistan over the Christmas holidays, making him the first sitting congressman to serve in a war zone since World War II.

“Mark Kirk is a disgrace to the Republican Party,” Andy charges. “I have written to Senator Kirk and asked him to step down when his current term expires. All of the claims I make in the letter, which follows below, are documented by a series of links at the bottom of this article. Even after his 2010 scandals, Kirk continues to lie on his senate web page that he has “deployed” on active duty service when DOD regulations (links below) prohibit such a false claim.

“The accusations by gay activist Mike Rogers that Kirk is a closeted homosexual are still on Rogers’ web page.

“All in all Kirk’s entire public life has been a total and complete fraud and he should step down so that the party can begin to choose a replacement.”

I find that you are again blatantly misrepresenting and inflating your military record. In addition, there are personal issues that make it obscene for you to be fundraising for reelection using the name of Michelle Obama. For the good of the Republican Party you should announce that you are not running for reelection so that the party can begin the selection process for your replacement now.

1. Misrepresenting your military record

I began investigating your false military record in 2009, see letter posted at www.MarkKirk.us. Later you went on to describe for Chicago media imaginary battles in Afghanistan in which you participated. I documented your fraudulent activity during January, 2010 but the local media preferred to engage in a cover-up until the Chicago cover-up was exposed by the Washington Post in June, 2010. The Washington Monthly stopped at a running total of nine (9) military lies by you in 2010, see  http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2010_06/024259.php

In short, you have utter contempt for the truth, utter contempt for stolen valor and very possibly a serious psychological and/or psychiatric difficulty that makes you a compulsive liar.

You were elected in 2010 because the Democrats chose to run a Mobbed-up, Crime Syndicate-linked “banker” as your opponent. I seriously doubt you will be so lucky next time. Trying to fund raise off the possible candidacy of Michelle Obama is thus gross and obscene.

2. Your use of false names and alias’

You registered at a hospital under a false name (Hillel Underwood). That may be a violation of federal law. Although you tried to claim that a Senate employee encouraged you to do so, a search of senate records and rules provides no justification for the claim that the Senate’s employees encourage false hospital registrations or the use of alias’ in medical or any other matters. I would ask that you disclose all of the alias’ you have used and where you have used them since 2000.

3. The allegations of your homosexuality continue in a changed climate for gay acceptance

To be clear at the outset, I have never accused you of homosexual behavior and I do not do so at this time. In 2009-2010 I merely pointed to allegations of your homosexual activity posted by your Lake County neighbors, the late Col. Ray True and the late Jack Roeser. I have no personal knowledge of your homosexual status vel non.

I was attacked by the completely mendacious Chicago media for truthfully drawing attention to public postings accusing you of being homosexual.

Once again, I merely draw attention to what is posted on the Internet. When you voted against repeal of DADT the gay community attacked you for hypocrisy, which was also the basis for Mike Rogers’ outing. My guess is that if you continue to remain closeted, you will again be attacked for the fact of being closeted.

Since 2010 there has been a sea change in how Americans view homosexuality. In neighboring Wisconsin, an openly lesbian senator has been elected as your colleague. Same-sex marriage has gained widespread acceptance. In other words, society has generally moved from a gays-as-closeted attitude to an open acceptance of homosexuals in public life.

There is strong opposition within the politically active gay community to closeted males who deny their sexuality. While the matter has yet to be tested in 2016, if you run for reelection I am relatively certain you will face opposition from gay activists for remaining closeted in the current environment of acceptance.

All in all your pretensions to reelection are an embarrassment to the Republican Party. Instead of acting as a faux candidate and seeking to raise cash off Michelle Obama, why not do the right thing and retire at the end of your term so the party may begin a search for your replacement now.

(WHEATON, IL)(November 1, 2010) Illinois political corruption fighter Andy Martin will hold a Monday evening news conference in Wheaton, Illinois to urge conservative DuPage County Republicans to reject Mark Kirk for the U. S. Senate.

“Mark Kirk lied about his military credentials,” Martin says. “He didn’t lie once. He didn’t lie by inadvertence. He lied over and over again, year after year. He created a false persona, complete with bogus pictures of himself in combat garb. The military fraud scheme was sophisticated: it fooled all of Chicago’s print and broadcast media. Kirk came back from a short visit as a congressman to Afghanistan in January with dramatic stories of being under Taliban fire. It was all a lie.

“Kirk claims he has ‘taken ownership’ of his lies, and claimed that as a ‘Navy officer’ he is responsible for his lies. What military organization would promote a habitual, pathological liar to a position of responsibility? When Admiral Jeremy Boorda was found to have exaggerated his military career, Boorda committed suicide because he knew he had dishonored the Navy. No one is suggesting Kirk should commit suicide. But for him to claim any legitimacy as a leader of the Republican Party is a joke. Kirk knows nothing about honor; he has none.

“Kirk lied about commanding the War Room. Kirk never did. The only think Kirk ever did in the War Room was to violate federal law by sending out campaign notes from a federal building.

“Kirk was ordered by the Pentagon to stop using Navy property in his political campaigns—and launched the only ‘attack’ of his military career. Kirk attacked the U. S. Navy for putting an end to his misuse of federal property. Last month, Kirk was back using phony props in campaign ads to suggest he is a combat veteran.

“What was interesting about comments on the editorial pages of the Springfield and Rockford newspapers was that the editors felt they ‘didn’t know’ who Kirk was. For real. No one does.

“Kirk’s wife, who was a military officer, didn’t know him either. He fooled her too. Kirk lied about his marriage vows. Why would anyone vote for a middle-aged man that no one knows?

“Kirk told Chuck Sweeny of the Rockford register that Kirk had fought ‘in two wars.’ Kirk never ‘fought’ in any war. Kirk lied about coming under fire in Iraq. (Full disclosure: Kirk had the nerve to say he was ‘fighting for Andy Martin’ when Kirk went on a junket to Afghanistan.)

“In 2003 Kirk said he had seen ‘evidence’ of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. There was no such evidence, and there were no such weapons. Kirk’s lies cost thousands of American men and women their lives. (Kirk claims to be an ‘intelligence officer.’)

“After being a close confident of George Bush, last week Kirk turned on Bush and called Bush a ‘liar.’ Was Kirk lying when he praised Bush? Who knows what confused thoughts run through Kirk’s disturbed mind?

“And yet Republicans nationally tell us they have ‘learned from the mistakes of the past’ and they are now ‘new Republicans’ this time, who are committed to ethics. If Mark Kirk is elected to the senate that will be the death knell of the ‘new Republican Party.’ Kirk is a disgrace to Illinois, a disgrace to the Republican Party and a disgrace to the U. S. Navy.

“Why would ‘conservative’ DuPage County Republican leaders ask rank-and-file voters to support Kirk? There is something wrong with the party when we urge voters to cast ballots for a pathological liar and a military fraud.

“Kirk also lied about his ‘teaching career,’ and he has lied about just about everything else in his life. Kirk voted against repeal of ‘Don’t ask, Don’t Tell,’ and then had his former wife come out and say he promised her he would vote the other way after November 2nd. Like John Kerry, Kirk was ‘for’ cap and trade before he was ‘against’ it.

“Barack Obama was a pathological liar, and no one listened when I explained why. Now Obama has devastated the Democratic Party as well as our economy. DuPage County Republicans must reject Kirk to save the Republican Party and to save the honor of our genuine military heroes who are serving in uniform,” Martin will state outside a DuPage rally for Kirk at Wheaton Bowl.

“I am a Republican loyalist,” Martin says. “Kirk has brazenly betrayed the Republican Party. He did so in the past; he will do so in the future. Why reward betrayal? Beats me.”

I provided the pointers on both Kirk's sexual misrepresentations and on his inflated military career. I filed a DADT complaint against Kirk. It's all out there on my blogs. Kirk can read it and weep.

“I beat the newspapers at their own game, by telling the truth about Kirk while they were lying to their readers. Lynn Sweet, the Sun-Times hack who appears on MSNBC, was a cheerleader for Kirk; she’s now exposed as a complete loser. Kirk had the temerity to tell the bogus Chicago media at the Union League Club in January that he was in Afghanistan ‘fighting for Andy Martin’s rights:’

Dear Mr. Blumenthal:

I know you don’t want to step down as a candidate for U. S. Senator. But the shock waves from the taped evidence in which you exaggerated your military service will be a dagger pointed at Connecticut Democrats until November. I am a Republican. But this is not a partisan letter.

Rather, this letter is one from a co-generationist. I did go to Viet-Nam. And Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. But I went as a civilian. I probably saw more combat that many who were “in country.” But that does not entitle me to lie about my record any more than it entitles you to do the same.

I come from a family of spooks and soldiers on both sides. And so there was always an expectancy I would enter the family business. My father was a decorated officer. So were my grandfather, and a great-grandfather. And there’s more.

Major J. D. Falk, one of the regular officers at the University of Illinois had been a very brave fighter pilot in Korea. He wanted me in the cockpit in the worst possible way. I was classified 1-P, set for pilot training, and set for an eventual commission in the Air Force. But during the summer of 1965 I spent time alone in England and Scotland. I realized I brought very little to the cockpit. My talents lay in the collection and analysis of information, not holding a rudder and handling a throttle. And so I chose a different path.

The year 1967 found me in Viet-Nam, And 1968. And 1970. While someone actually gave me a pistol, and I learned how to break down the weapon and strip an M-16 I was always conscious of the separation between the men who did the shooting and the people who performed other tasks. I know that if we had been overrun out in the boondocks I would have picked up a rifle and killed. I had no moral compunctions about killing.

Because of my dad’s role, and my Uncle Bill’s, I had read every book on World War II in the Oxford (England) public Library. But until you experience war up front, in the face, you have no idea what you are about to see, hear, feel and ultimately retain within you.

I can vividly remember the first time I came under fire. I remember the day I went to Graves Registration with Captain Chuck (later Governor/Senator) Robb. A Lieutenant Hale had been killed the day before when Hale made a false step and triggered a mine. Lt. Hale was reduced to a few scraps of flesh and bone.

In Cambodia I remember seeing the bodies of “enemy” Cambodians that had been killed by government soldiers. They had been butchered and dumped on a truck like sides of beef.

And then there were the “Saigon Commandoes,” military troops stationed in Saigon who had mamasans and laundry misses and lived a life of luxury. They were “in Viet-Nam” but not “of Viet-Nam.” But I still afford and accord them the honor, because danger was never more than a footstep away. I lived at the Majestic Hotel in downtown Saigon, where Peter Kann, later publisher of the Wall Street Journal, was one of my neighbors. But I spent as much time as possible in I Corps.

I remember the coffin of a Vietnamese soldier draped with his flag, sitting on the runway at Dong Ha. His wife sat on the coffin and wailed uncontrollably. That weeping was in the days when many Americans still held to the racist belief that “Asians care less for life than we do.” In that moment I realized they didn’t. Her wails are still with me. I can still see her sitting there alone, crying on the coffin as darkness descended.

War, combat, firefights, shooting, bombing and killing of every sort changes us. Some men become addicted. Some break. Some go home with seemingly negligible aftereffects. But there is one common denominator. Few who have seen killing up front enjoy talking about it.

After decades of looking at the past I still can’t tell you which man (or woman) will break, and which one won’t. But men do break. I remember walking into a jungle crawling with North Vietnamese soldiers, and looking for them. One night that I will never forget the clouds closed in. It rained. Choppers were grounded. Perfect conditions to be overrun. We sat and waited for the inevitable attack, which didn’t come.

Later, during the worst night of my life, in Iran in 1979, I was arrested as a spy. When the komiteh, a sort of neighborhood vigilante, had his gunman turn an AK-47 on me I knew the end was close. But I managed to walk away the next day. I can still see the man with the rifle pointed in my direction. I know what he looks like. I could draw him. And yet I went back, back to Iran. Back to Afghanistan. Alone, and always afraid.

Iraq was more of the same. Friends blown up. Danger everywhere. I was lucky again. The only difference between Baghdad and Saigon was that there were no “Baghdad Commandoes.” In a great mistake, the U. S. Military segregated itself from the Iraqi people, and allowed the insurgency to take root in the vacuum.

Men who have been in combat as soldiers or Marines do not take lightly to stolen valor. I know why. There is a special bond among those who put their lives on the line, voluntarily or involuntarily (under the draft). To be sure, not everyone in Viet-Nam or Iraq was “in combat.” But they were always in danger.

And so now we come to your imaginary combat career as someone who “served in” and “returned” from Viet-Nam. You tried to steal a little bit of the valor earned by men who served. Former Congressman Chris Shays is a decent man, a conscientious objector, and he knows you well. He detailed how your exaggerations grew from decade to decade, as memories dimmed and the real veterans aged and died or became disabled:

I have followed your career from a distance for decades. You are a careerist on the left not unlike Congressman Mark Kirk on the “right” (or “somewhere”).

Like you, Mark Kirk was/”is” also in the military. And like you Mark Kirk is guilty of stolen valor. Kirk shamelessly exploits and exaggerates his military activity. And, like you, up until now Kirk has gotten away with his lies. The insipid and corrupt Illinois news media have covered up Kirk’s exaggerations which are similar to your own. And Kirk will pay the same price you are paying later in this election season.

Both of you have shamelessly and relentlessly polished your resumes, like buttons on a uniform, the same way Bill Clinton did. And, ironically, both you and Kirk are running for the senate this year.

So where do we go from here? There is no easy answer. Having pursued the brass ring all your life, you are loath to walk away from the prize. I think a real Marine would walk away.

Your “defense” of your lies was more of an “offense” than an apology. You need a lesson in humility. The type of humility you learn in real combat, under fire. Your belligerent defense will not sit well with veterans, notwithstanding your misuse of the VFW hall and a few Democratic Party military hacks that were rounded up to surround you at your news conference.

Finally, there is your son. What message will you send him, what legacy will you leave him if you claim that it is acceptable to lie and then take “full responsibility” for your lies? Won’t you also be stealing a little bit of him? Win or lose in November?

The ongoing reaction to your “misspeakings” will be long and slow and explosive. The issue is not going away.

Should you pull out? I think you should give the option serious thought. You could run again in two years and say you benefited from the gap in your career. You needed “time to be with yourself.”

I have never been a careerist, which, I suppose, is the real mark of a soldier or a spook. We know that a “career” can end in a split second, with one false step on a mine (in Viet-Nam) or an IAD in Iraq and Afghanistan. And I have never lied about being a soldier in Viet-Nam, which is why I can unhesitatingly relate some of my experiences there without a fear of being “found out” as an imposter.

I am what I am. For better or worse.
